U used more gel medium than fluid. It all differs in consitency of the paint. Fluid makes paint runny, more ink like which is good for some applications and gel medium is gonna give u thicker paint more like oils. The dying times don't differ tho, both at 40% longer dry time. Just depends on consultancy of paint...what u like more or how u need the paint to act.

I used the amount needed to not make the paint totally transparent and for getting a blend similar to oil paints. If you add to much of the fluid medium your paint will be so transparent you will need to layer up to a whole lot to get your canvas covered especially when you tint the canvas. I use this application for landscape paintings so I needed a good slo dri medium that extends the painting dry time without making my colors overly transparent. Also I have left out the 2 mediums mixed with acrylic paint overnight and the gel medium formed a film but was still not dried out, whereas the fluid one was dried completely. From my experience, the fluid one dries much faster than the gel.

was it because you used twice as much gel as you did fluid?

I put the amount recommended for each medium. If you put to much of liquid medium, your paint will just be super transparent. Which is also why I prefer the gel.

Can you please tell me which one you prefer and why. I think I missed your ending preference.

I prefer the gel medium, the liquid dries much faster and also it makes the paint too transparent.
