I think the reason why the smell is really powerfull at the start is because the aromatics in the drink is in equilibrium between the liquid and the air in there so it's very concentrated in the air comparitively.

The smell is most potent right when you open the bottle because the air inside of the system (closed bottle) has yet to diffuse outside into the atmosphere, so after the bottle is open for some time the air is a mixture of both Prime's vapor and regular air
