Love watching this. Traditional jiu jitsu is concerned with solutions so much that we forget the problems we are solving. I think this is why your style is so effective, you are solving problems, not doing solutions AKA "moves". Your guiding principles "keep your head higher than theirs on both the horizontal and vertical axis" work so well because you are counterbalanced against backwards sweeps at all times, and force your opponent constantly work against your weight with their arms constantly. You should look into coaches Greg Souders, Steve Sievewright, and Kabir Bath as well as the Ecological approach to jiu jitsu which is focused on understanding the invariants of grappling, or what you are calling "the meta truth".

pls i need more primal videos, i used it against a black belt that usually give me a hard time(4yearpurple). i literally wrecked him, he was breathing so hard while i was barely tired. i spent the first 3-4 min inside his closed guard,half guard and mostly open guard. he tired himself out trying to break my incredible posture. I also kept leaning on his stomach and yanking on his head to restrict breathing. i saw a easy pass and i took it and i got him to side control the last min he got to his side and was holding on to my hands for dear life and breathing real hard. i probably shouldnt have been chest to shoulder and then the round ended. i have been using it on people and having good success. keeping my head higher, keepin my head away from them and away from the floor. shit works at least for the moment. please make more videos sparring and breaking down your techniques. thank you so much for this game changing perspective.

I’m not so sure, I think his insistence on staying on his feet no matter what makes himself naturally more balanced. Obviously he’s being mindful of hooks and wedges but when he treats all his limb as like table legs it genuinely seems intuitive. I guess since I haven’t tried I can say anything with authority or certainty but I believe what he is saying about there being only one singular principle of keeping your head elevated above your partner.

What Ive noticed in these videos and from training myself is that many people accept bottom positions because they are playing Jiu jitsu. This can give top players a false sense of pinning the person when they are not trying to get up at all. Personally I've been incorporating this tactic more. Where I'm always looking for a way up to my feet. And ofc being proficient at standing grappling makes it easier once you're up, if the person stays up as well. But a lot of time once you get up to your feet they'll fall over to keep playing Jiu Jitsu.
@davidfernandotorrente92836 ай бұрын
Exactly, thinking about this I have come to the conclusion that the stupid rule of not fighting standing up in some academies causes that in certain situations where it would be better to get up and continue the fight standing up, it becomes a moment where the person who is on the ground tries grabs or sweeps that are very difficult to connect or that compromise their situation when the most effective and simple response in a fight would be to get off the ground.

I've been cooaching several martial arts, but for many years bjj was one that I didn't get a proper coach because I couldn't afford to pay for one to teach me consistently. All I had was youtube, my students who were open minded to learn and coach brian who answers my questions in the comments section. All I knew were a few moves that I drill with friends at my own place. After a few years of doing that, I went for training trials at different bjj gyms, and because I felt like I wouldn't do well to do moves, I made sure to stay on top as if I was ready for a second guy to come at me with a sucker punch. Coaches would always say that I'm really good, but believe me I'm a potato just trying to stay on top.

I don't know if it's the style or if you're a different kind of thinker. I've see judoka stay on their feet to pass the guard, but this is insane. How in the world would your students drill such a way of fighting and they gaining similar success? I've seen people use their knees to trap, but I'd be like... "Darn it! I can't get him to stop putting that darn knee in my chest!" Please do more videos, perhaps with some narration so that we can get an idea of what your thinking when you roll... or not roll. Thanks!

Very interesting style. You seem to spend a lot of time standing with your knees very close to your opponent’s hips and hands. As someone who has blown out my knee quite badly before I feel like this style would make me very nervous about someone either accidentally or deliberately (due to desperation) pushing or hipping into my knee causing hyperextension or lateral buckling.
