Trying NOT to Speak Japanese in Japan for 24 Hours ~ In this day/week in my life as a Filipino-Japanese LGBTQ+/gay boy living in Tokyo, Japan... Steven, Stewie, and I went around Tokyo without speaking any Japanese! We went to a restaurant in a hotel, to a cafe, to the convenience store, museum, went shopping for shoes, and even went to the police station to ask for directions! I hope this gave you an idea about traveling to Japan!

I used to work in Donki, they usually have staff who can speak foreign languages. So if you ask a Japanese speaking staff, they would call another one, who can speak your language. But the staff you met seems to be very kind as she decided to help you without calling English speaking staff, or they didn’t have one😂

I needed this video! I'm visiting Tokyo rn while watching this video. Yesterday, a tour guide said I sounded "cute" when I spoke Japanese. So, I guess I'll use English from now on until I figure out if that was a good or bad thing. 🙃

As a British person, your British accent (a Cockney hybrid) was actually good, we just don't speak THAT strongly 😂😂 If you are a British person living in a major city, you commonly come across people who don't speak English as a first language so we often switch the type of English accent we use (we would switch to more formal accent) and speak slower. As an English speaker, I forget how privileged I am to speak a language that many try to accommodate around the world. When I travel to Asia, I see signs in public written in the country's language, other Asian languages and English. In the UK, you only see signs in English (in Wales some Welsh, and in random places Mandarin and Bengali).

Korean language learning tips for Stewie (from an intermediate level learner) 🇰🇷❗️I recommend buying children’s books or reading webtoons for practice (if he’s gotten to the point where he can read sentences; I found a Miffy children’s book at a bookstore in Busan once😼) and buying textbooks like “Integrated Korean” (these also have workbooks you can get to go along with the lessons), “Korean Grammar In Use”, and using websites such as Topik, 90Day Korean, HiNative, and Naver!! hope this helps him in his learning journey~~ 우리 앞으로 열심히 공부를 하자!!

We went to Japan with almost zero Japanese knowledge. We were at Namba OCAT looking for Starbucks using Google maps but we can't find it despite it saying we are already at the location. We asked a man in blue uniform (I don't know if he's a security guard or a police?), he doesn't speak English but he understood what we said. He pointed at the direction and said something in Japanese but we couldn't understand it. But with body language, we were able to decipher what he said (Starbucks is at the basement and we need to take the elevator). We said our thanks and walked to the elevator, but he followed us, I thought he was also going to that direction, but he actually went with us and made sure that we found Starbucks 😂 So kind ❤

This was my life until I was 21 and moved abroad. Born and raised in Japan and went to a Brazilian school in Ibaraki. Didn't even know English until I was older. Plus I lived in the countryside XD. Not being able to read signs, labels, have small talks with strangers, they were all just part of my routine.
