Trying out Contentful, a Headless CMS

Contentful is a useful headless CMS (unlike WordPress which has a UI) you can use to hook your text up to a dashboard so that other people can modify the text for your website live (or pre-build if using JAMstack with gatsby or next.js, etc).

What's the point here? If the marketing people need to ask a developer to create a new page, the whole idea is meaningless. Creating data layers is not the problem here, the problem is that you have to work with a JS IDE.

the point is developers time is expensive, so have them need to go through and setup pages and change text isn't the best use of their time. If you instead can provide a dashboard that business people can modify text on the page, it makes life a bit easier. That's the benefit of a CMS.

@@WebDevCody Thanks for the quick reply :) But still: If you are forced to have JS competence to deal with page creations, you would still have to use expensive developers. Let's say you want to make a headline centered instead of left aligned. Is the only resort to go and ask someone with CSS competence? Marketing people don't want to deal with CSS, and even less with JS. Where and how is the page building handled?

@@oniondeluxe9942 yeah I mean you’ll always need a dev to change styles, but let’s say a business needs to change the hours of operation because they have to close early due to renovations. A business owner shouldn’t have to call a dev just to update their hours, they should have a dashboard they can use to change that
