Hi Kate, I hope to hear you one of these days from California. . If you got some small light coax like RG8X and wrapped a two and a half inch diameter 16 turn coil around something like a plastic water bottle . and from the coil went up the coax 9 ft to the end . and then attached a straight wire to the center lead from there up 9 ft with a loop in the top . you could attach that to one of the lightweight 25' telescoping fiberglass poles and carry it with you for any field day - . because it makes a centerfed halfwave vertical dipole, . so roughly equal to the performance of an IMAX, and better (I have found) than an Antron99!

Nice little gadget works good but it would need a aerial better so enjoy it more and take advantage of a few watts on air. walking over that green prairie very beautiful landscape..thumb up

Beautiful four footed friend Kate we have had ssb walky talky in us years ago but demand was poor everyone wanted the mountable mobiles and based at the time It was about twice the size of the Albrecht you display but was workable

You can’t beat a bit of fresh air, never tried a Multimode handy but like a few have said it maybe worth investing in a bigger antenna as i know on FM it is night and day better. Thanks for the video Kate.

They make a telescopic antenna for 27mhz. Your body can act as the “ground”. I have the same radio as well as the Midland 75-822 and have made videos with them . Good luck. You definitely have the right location picked out.

Probably the only handheld radio with SSB but the 2990 is said to be very good in the DX now a nice long telescopic antenna for 27Mhz have fun with it in the DX dear Kate 73s

You can get a proper antenna made for that radio and you might have a chance of making a contact. That antenna is woefully inefficient.

I had 2 of them years ago both was rubbish the frq was unstable i got my money back was a shame because it was a nice looking radio

The reason why the frequency was unstable is because the supplied battery was unable to handle the current demand. I had the same problem with the Cherokee AH-100 until I got a much better battery from an aircraft supplier.

It was the same on receive as transmit i had 2 radios the same i am talking about 10 years ago they was 10m Radios i suporse some was converted to 11m but it is nice to see one working as it should these days i have A icom ic705 for portable on 10m
