One of my viewers asked me to try out the Tram 1499 antenna again. I believe that in my previous tests, I had bad coax which gave me a high SWR reading. This time around the SWR was very low.

Glad to see this test Ridge. Been waiting for it. I also have an A-99 (for about 10 years now) with LMR400 coax. I wonder if you would have noticed any difference using better coax with the Tram ..? Not worth buying expensive coax just for a test though. Keep up the good work !

That Tram antenna is a double helix antenna. The antenna requires RG 8x coax cable at 50-100 feet. The coax cable acts as a counter poise. I have one I feed with 50 feet of rg 8x.

I'll bet a mobile antenna, 102 inch whip would make a far better antenna. Add three 102 inch radials and you would have an antenna that would make contacts. A three foot long end fed antenna for a base antenna would be a fairly good dummy load.

Them littld tram anrennas are terrible of uses coax as a radiator 1.7 on 40 ch s. High SWR abofd ch ch'z its junk with RF feedback & commin mode RF noise . Best thing to fo oull if alart tufn igbinto a ameature 2m verticam .
