I totally get this. The way I have moved beyond this is as follows: 1. Pinpoint what you want your ideal closet to be. Hipster? Vintage? Grunge? Meadowpunk? Dragoncore? Pinterest and other inspirations will help you set a clear goal. 2. Thrift stores. Find several. Shop them when you can. Only get things that fit that aesthetic or you KNOW you will wear (not comfy clothes that's cheating you have enough) 3. Marie Kondo your pre-existing wardrobe. Only keep things you wear regularly and give you joy. Keep things that fit your ideal self. 4. Prosper and enjoy your life to the best you can. Sometimes looking and feeling like the best you that you can be will make your day a million times better. Sometimes it's too much work. Having a "put together" wardrobe can help alleviate some of that, but some days you just want to wear sweatpants and that's okay too. But if you find it's the 4th day in a row wearing your comfy pants, breaking out of that rut is important and mindset changing.

I’m starting to play around with the idea of “trash fae” which stems from a sort of inside joke with coworkers. I am currently working on my foundational piece, which is an egg carton flower crown, and I’ve put a call out for people to save pop can tabs so I can...maybe...make a corset from them? Or maybe learn some valuable life lessons about craft ambitions?
@johannageisel53904 жыл бұрын
You can make jewelry from colourful glass shards wrapped in wire. And there is a way of crocheting with pop can tabs. It's not that hard, if you can crochet. I've started on a little pouch for a post-apocalyptic costume, which is made from parcel twine with those pop can tabs crocheted in. If you have old cassettes or VHS casettes, you could look into crocheting the magnetic band. ^ ^ Very trashy.

I absolutely adore the man, and i totally agree with you, i dont necessarily wish i was older but I would so love to have just hung out with him for a day. He was such a good person, and he was so unique precisely because he was so human and so extraterrestrial at the same time. I find it so cool to talk to other people who have felt his influence and who he has inspired. Im glad you found the pictures! "cottage academia" you wear over-sized sweaters and bake bread in your ivy-covered, stone-walled cottage by the sea. It is stuffed with house plants, old books, and leather-bound journals filled with poems, pressed flowers, love letters to no one, and labeled nature diagrams in spidery cursive detailing every part of a mushroom and the different types of birds. You drink herbal tea as you watch the sun rise over the meadow, causing the dew on your vegetable garden to sparkle as pies cool on your windowsill. Your glasses fog up as you take a sip. It's a lot of blazers, sweater-vests, peter-pan collars and obviously earth tones as well as other things that put you in mind of owls, rabbits, foxes, and hedgehogs. You study and collect pine cones and acorns, logging them in your field-guide, and know all the medicinal herbs and even grow some in your garden. You enjoy picking up fallen birch bark and writing messages in Latin on the soft underside to leave out for the fairies. You burn plenty of candles (maybe homemade) and frame plants for your walls. You go out at night to look at the stars through an old brass telescope and write down the constellations. You pick apples, read fantasy in trees, and classic literature inside while listening to the rain. You bike down to the library with flowers in your bike basket and visit the lighthouse on your way home to give the keeper some blueberry scones. You throw an autumn leaf into the river and watch it drift away. You fill your house with trinkets: sea glass, a gramophone, a typewriter, an old camera, rusty lanterns, fairy lights, interesting rocks/crystals, feather pens. Braids, florals, tweed, staying up till 3am with the window open, misty gray oceans with rocky shores, leather boots and satchels to carry books, journals and shiny things around in, tea leaves, collecting flowers to dry.

Reading books on how to make your own marmalade and cottage cheese. Crows. Strawberries. Window flower boxes. Fireflies. Baskets. Frogs. Visiting art museums to look at flower paintings to try and replicate at home. Doing pottery. Snail shells. Nature sketches and diagrams. Knitting. Cross-stitching rude words. Grinning when you hear a thunderstorm. Collecting worms after it rains and putting them in your garden. Ladybirds. Making flower crowns. Tiny towns with cobbled streets, books stores, apothecaries and coffee shops. Old, ornate keys. Cloud-gazing and naming the different kinds. Moss-covered rocks. Collecting the skulls of small animals from the forest to sketch and study. Copper cauldrons for soup and poultices. Lilly pads. An old wooden rope-swing next to a still lake to skip rocks on or sit on and bird-watch through binoculars. Shelves of glass jars with cork stoppers filled with herbs, buttons, insect wings and seasonings. Long walks through the forest pondering philosophy as golden light filters through the leaves. Succulents. Reading up on how to take care of each plant and following that meticulously for some, but watering the others whenever it feels right. Talking to your plants because you read about a study once where it helped. A leather roll-up pencil case for your charcoal drawing pencils. Sitting out on the roof at night to watch the moon rise.
