I'm Polish American from Chicago. Polish food is awesome! Potato and cheese Pierogies are the best fried with caramelized onions. I also love stuffed cabbage and Bigos with smoked sausage.

I have a very good polish friend who came to America when he was 12. He's like 45 now. And Chicago is where alllll his family went too. Is there a big polish community there? His last name is Przgocki , think that's how it's spelt.

@@davycornell8715 oh wow your friend is close to my age. I'm 43. Yes Chicago has one of the biggest Polish communities in America. There's about 2 million of us here. We have our own stores, churches, TV and radio stations and events all over the city and suburbs.

@@davycornell8715 Yeah, majority of us Polish descent Americans live in the midwest or east coast, there’s huge polish american communities all over Illinois (specifically Chicago area) they’re in Michigan as well (specifically the Detroit metro area and Hamtramck) and Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey.

Where i grew up in Michigan, the next town over was Posen. If my information is correct, the local newspaper there was still printed in Polish in the 1950's. Their potato festival and other events were an absolute foodie delight. I need to see when the Potato Festival is this year.

Josiah, another thing you should try is a Slovak dish called haluski. It's a mixture of fried onions and cabbage with egg noodles and bacon. It might not sound like much but it's really good.

Gołąbki is amazing with rice and mushroom, pierogi with pickled cabbage i think? (Kapusta kiszona in polish) and mushroom, or with minced meat. and suprised you didn’t say „biggos” like many americans say it. You got it almost right, just that the „o” is supposed to be like the o in „mario” if you say it in an italian accent.

Josiah, my father's parents were from Poland and I grew up in an area with a large population of Polish-Americans. Polish food is just part of the local culture there. My favorite kind of pierogi is the kind with mashed potatoes, farmer's cheese and sauteed onions known as Ruski pierogi. Here are some suggestions: Lightly brown them on both sides in olive oil, butter and onions and then put a little sour cream on them. Your tastebuds will thank you.

I'm Mexican and my roommate is polish . He cooks polish dishes every now and then, and they always taste sweet to me . I'm not sure if that's how they are supposed to taste, but I always add hot sauce or run it through water to take some of the seasonings off the food lol

I'm 50% Polish and love the food from my grandparents' country. From Ohio, but live near Chicago now. I have a Mexican friend fellow-foodie who gives me suggestions about "South of the Border" places. I told him about this Polish place and he went nuts about how good the food was!! I think that's the first place he's been to that wasn't just a Maxwell Street Polish diner. BTW, they are delicious. I doubt he'll try kiszka or czarnina anytime soon, so more for me!!!
