Our unit trained with the Dutch marines in the 90s. Their MREs were DELICIOUS, but of course, they were sick of them. We gladly traded. We wanted their FALOs too..............

Some armies do issue metal "cutlery" to each soldier. So they have no need for the disposable plastic crap the US forces like to pack into their meals. The ones we had (i live in a conscript army country) were like the cutlery you have at home, just less fancy and you could combine them at the end of the handle. Spoon for soups and stuff, tableknife, fork and a can opener. Had their own pouch and "lived" next to the canteen on the belt. Only thing is, if it's too old, it might rattle, so then one would put some tissue paper or similiar things inbetween to prevent noise. And we also had the fuel tablet stoves like the french. Every conscript had one. And none of us hurt themselves. Sometimes i get the feeling that there's a difference in how much you can trust the average citizen with not hurting themselves or not being overly stupid ;-)

US got ride of mess kits a while ago. I don’t know if the canteen cup is still issued. Mess kits were oversized knife, fork and spoon and a two part pan/ plate thing.

Fantastic video! I want a whole series now. MREs of the world. I have had C-rats, Gen one MRE's, Gen two and up to modern MREs. I ate in a ROK chow hall once. Good food and they didn't rush me because I was a visitor, but their own troops had to move right along.

We found one on the side of the MSR during the Gulf War. We made a game of dumping the contents out and trying to put them back in the box like a 3D puzzle. There is zero wasted space in that box. I think it conatins 3 meals. And, no fork.

In ‘86 we had the “beef patty, dehydrated “ . I just crunched that bastard up between swigs from my canteen!😜 But at least with the ham slices you could trade off your next three gigs of ACQ to someone! I got out in 2002 and they were way better then.

hello, there are severals menus. When Iwas on duty30 years ago it was closed the same ration. What I can say is : The french ration was easy to trade with US soldiers. I tried the US one, not too bad but I did prefer the french one !!! Thank you for yours videos
