I love pomelos! I have been purchasing them all winter and they are so delicious. My absolute favorite citrus! I will say that from my experience a ripe pomelo needs to be incredibly fragrant with yellow skin and a firm yet giving feel to it. Congratulations on the new apartment! Enjoy it

Yay new apartment!! Actually the pomelo is a hybrid 😘 Yes, pomelo (Citrus maxima) is considered a natural hybrid of citrus fruits. It's believed to be a hybrid of the wild orange (Citrus grandis) and the tangerine or mandarin (Citrus reticulata). Pomelos are native to Southeast Asia and have been cultivated for centuries. They're known for their large size, thick skin, and sweet, slightly tart flavor. Interestingly, pomelos are often used as a parent species in citrus breeding programs to create new hybrid varieties. So, while pomelo itself is a hybrid, it's also used to create new hybrids!

Congrats on new apartment! Counter space & fridge size are crave-worthy:) The yummiest pomelos grow locally here in Cali, also phenomenal guavas, star fruits, dragon fruits..definitely spoiled for yummy choices, so so grateful..I would recommend getting pomelos that grew a bit closer to you than China..this one looked quite old and dry/fibrous. If you can get your hands on US grown pomelos, that’d be your best bet;)

Holy Moly - I thought a regular Pomelo had a thick skin until you cut that baby. Where is the fruit!!! I would ask for a refund at that price :) The kitchen space looks great. Not sure what that microwave and oven are doing there. More storage space perhaps. Since I moved into my place just over a year ago, both the micro and oven have not been used except for setting the time. I boil sweet potato for my dog so the stove gets a bit of use. Wish you well in your new home. Much love ❤

I unfortunately have never had a good pomelo. Always a disappointment. I tried when I first went vegan up in Jersey. Tried again when I first moved down to central Florida in 2013. Then a 3rd time recently (from Miami Fruit). No good. Like you said, that huge pith for no apparent reason. The flesh dry, hard and unenjoyable.

I have learned the hard way that you have to wait a long time for them to ripen after you bring them home from the store. I have cut into a lot of underripe ones and been disappointed.
