Chipshop Curry sauce has also become abit of a taste sensation over the years, if ya get a good one... Little piece of advice - don’t get fish & chips from London, you’ll find most of these places are either tourist traps or won’t have fresh fish as it’s far away from the coast. My best advice would be to find small independent shops on the coast but try and avoid the seagulls 😂

when fried fish is done wright, the oil never touches the fish. just the batter. essentially steaming the fish. elsewhere in the UK the prices differ. you average local chip shop for a similar platter would be around £7 - £10. obviously paying a little more because of LONDON pricing, and the fame of the shop. eat in restaurants will charge more. that seams a good price for where you are eating. As an American proudly of 1/4 English ancestry (Grandma was a War Bride), I could never understand why British cuisine gets so much hate. It's some of the heartiest, most savory, and delicious food I've ever had. My theory is that it's because it isn't pretentious like French food with all their fancy prep methods nor is it super spicy like so many other cuisines tend to lean on. I also think that, for most Americans, we're largely unaware that most classic "American" dishes - things like roast beef, roast chicken, ham steaks, batter-frying meats and fish (including fried chicken), baked potatoes, brown gravy, and yes, apple pie - all either have their origins in the UK or are just straight up British dishes that came here during the Colonial period. The only "Five Mother Sauces" I need are brown gravy, HP, Worcestershire, Malt vinegar, and Colman's Mustard.

16 quid used to be very exspensive ..... in the 1980s chips were 50p and fish a couple of royal British pounds Even in the 90s to 2000 chips were only about 1.50p . Now it's just crazy the prices - As for videos fish and chips - it does look good . But "Up north" you will get cheaper and some of the "chippys" up north are very good . I love "Tar Tar" sauce - but curry sauce is my favourite. It doesn't go with the fish so I just eat the fish with salt and vinegar

If you want really good fish and chips, go to a fishing port town like Fleetwood. I used to live not a million miles from Manchester but even though we were only and hours drive from Fleetwood, the fish there was just so much better. Not just a little bit, a lot better. Hit it with the vinegar, then salt (the salt doesn't stick without the vinegar) then the tartar sauce.

Aaahhhh man rule number 1, if you want the best then you go to a costal town/sea side for the best fish and chips. Cod still has that liver oil running through it. Tastes amazing

Got the same thing for £7 in the midlands. I complained that was too much. Should be a fiver. Fish and chips is supposed to be a cheap filling simple meal.
