You have to let the water super cool, takes about 2-3 hours. Don't open the bottle during the process or shake it. You can check, visually, so it won't harden into ice. About 2 hours or so later, you can open it and pour it into a glass of water, and it would turn to slush. No salt needed.

For the little ice tower u don't need to have a water and salt paper towel, u just need a closed water bottle, put it in the freezer from 2-4 hours and then pour it on some ice then, voila, congratulations, a little ice tower. =)

for the water slush trick you need to let the bottled water get below 0 degrees, bottled water is different and doesn't freeze right after hitting below zero, it stays in a liquid state. You need to shake it, hit it, or pour it for it to freeze again. The salt was there to make it colder and to speed up the cooling process.
