Excellent video! Personally, I prefer the Season 1 Battle System. Its rules were simple and well-defined, and strategy constituted a huge part of the game. From New Vestroia onwards, the players mostly spammed Ability Cards and whoever activated the most broken and overpowered ones typically won, which I found to be boring. As for the gimmicks, I think the Bakugan Traps and Battle Gear were fine, but everything else was too much and I'd rather they hadn't been introduced at all.

@darklordcommeth2367 which is crazy all things considered senior Spectra have the most overpowered abilities and spammed them as often as he could and ended up with a questionable win-loss record. And baron has a combo that he can go into to be sure that he wins all the time but never bothers with it after episode 3

@@mikethewarrior2723 I forgot about Spectra and his terrible win-loss ratio. I've always thought it was ludicrous how often he lost to Dan when Helios was such an overpowered behemoth. To be fair, though, Drago was pretty busted himself since he had the stupid Perfect Core and later the Attribute Energies. As for Baron, are you referring to that Fusion Ability that swaps power levels if there is a 500Gs difference? If so, yes, I agree it's pretty weird how he never used it again after episode 3. Perhaps the writers realized how busted it made him, and that's why they quietly erased any traces of it. It wouldn't be the first time they did something like that. Remember Masquerade's Merge Shield or Kazarina's Time Warp? Those were also never used again after their first appearance.

I completely agree, the Season 1 battle system was much better, it allowed for alot of creative plays, you could have a Bakugan with 50 g-power against a Bakugan with 500 g-power and if you're smart about your plays you could actually beat it, The game was more strategy than power back then. With the Bakugan, ability and gate card limit of 3, every move counted coz you had limited resources so you had to figure out the best way to utilize them which allowed for people developing different strategies like Runo's 2 v 1 strategy, Murucho's strategy of using attribute combination which let him boost 2 Bakugan for the price of 1 ability card, Masquerade and some of his minion's strategy of using sacrifice cards like mine ghost and third judgment, even Shun's strategy of evading combat to take out as many of the opponent's bakugan at once in one fell swoop, etc. It's sad how much of the strategy aspect we lost in favour of 1 v 1 all-out battles with ability cards being thrown left and right. Season 1 battle system was just better

The Life Guage being 500 makes the 500Gs rule feel so much more appropriate. Like, you got one-shot that round. You are so ass. You dont even deserve that Bakugan. That just feels like perfect logic for an ante-rule, especially for what we see of Vestal culture.

Season 1 had the best rules and battles. If felt like strategy was used. From season 2 onward battles always felt like people win or lost just to advance the plot, a rule system implemented would have made the season more enjoyable!

As someone who loved Season 1, when New Vestroia basically abandoned the rules of the game I pretty much jumped ship. Things felt more unstructured and it didn't feel as fun. It would be like if YuGiOh ditched the rules of the game in season 2 and instead they just had their ace monster do a shonen battle. It wouldn't be that fun.
@ghosty918
@ghosty918 Ай бұрын
Yugioh did ditch the rules in season 2, it was just to implement a more codified ruleset lol Season 1: 2000LP, a bunch of nonsense, no tribute summons, no direct attacks, one attack a turn, etc. Season 2: 4000LP, slightly less nonsense, tribute summons, direct attacks allowed, one attack per monster, etc. Duelist Kingdom rules is so utterly different to Battle City's Super Expert rules that they are baaically different games

I honestly think new vestroa fights (while not as stranger based) still at least we consistent with THEIR rule set. It’s not like ALL strategy is sucked out and the power based battles can even be more visually appealing in some regard. Gundian invaders fucked everything up tho

Honestly im fine with the Season 2+ rules as a sort of cultural thing, as a form of duels for the vestals or other worlds, but i wouldve preferred if they stuck to the more strategic variation back on Earth for when Marucho's simulation brings the game back, which frankly makes more sense than what happened
@mikethewarrior2723
@mikethewarrior2723 Ай бұрын
@4nnb3rl1ght I'll probably do a video about it someday but I do think in hindsight it probably would have been best if each season had its own set of rules in a sense. The fact that three different species in season 3 and 2 have the exact same battle system it's kind of hilarious when you remember that the season 1 rule set was made by a bunch of 12 year olds in a Discord server.

I'm one of those people that missed the Bakugan train, but see it here and there due the hobbies I do have, and honestly when I have seen some of the anime it amazes me how lucky this product was to get off the ground when the anime really didn't translate or act as a good gateway to the product, giving more questions on how the game is played than answers. Yu-gi-oh and pokemon two IP I do keep up with had similar issues with early episodes making stuff up, but started to focus more and more on the actual rules so the anime could translate to the playable product and even with Yu-gi-oh doing the gimmick of 5Ds having duels on motorbikes they explained it enough for players to keep up and still had normal duels to keep that translation. even beyblade with it's nonsense always kept the rules easy enough to understand, with the last bey or bey team member spinning in the arena wins, but Bakugan no matter how many times I have tried to binge some always left me confused.
@mikethewarrior2723
@mikethewarrior2723 Ай бұрын
@skormfuse honestly I feel like the first episode is kind of terrible because they don't explain anything and you're kind of just expected to keep up. A lot of show don't tell but I do think as season 1 goes it is easy enough to understand the rules. The second season first episode is a lot better because while it doesn't explain everything it does break down the new mechanics . Honestly the best way to understand the rules is to play the original Bakugan video game, which is sad all things considered that you have to go out of your way to buy a video game just so you can understand the rules of the show. ( one could argue that Pokemon is very similar however I think the Pokemon anime always does its own thing.)

Honestly I do enjoy the second 2 and onward rules in terms of a battle since it’s none stop action and excitement, but I like season 1 rules in terms of a brawl since it gives some more strategy and ways to make the attributes more unique such as Haos being about teamwork and jumping your opponent while Darkus could be underhanded and attack from anywhere as just some examples.

I honestly think the season one rules should hace mixed with the New Vestroia rules IRL. I think having either 500 LP and first to zero loses, with the first to 3 rules as an alternative win condition would have made the game a lot more dynamic. Do I go for that one big win or aim for a few small victories, or do I am to collect cards quickly by double standing?

I think an important thing to note is the reasons they don't follow any rules at points is because they aren't playing the game, but rather like actually fighting important battles. In season 3 theres a genuine war happening. They aren't trying to win a game, they're straight up trying to kill each other. Its why for most of mechtanium surge part 2 theres no rules except for the last episode where they are in a proper tournament setting. Also gate cards seem to be able to be used outside of battle, at least in season 1 they were and was how they took out some of naga's minions.

@@jamesattack7420 while you aren't entirely wrong, the overall issue ( if we will call it that) is that it's a bit harder to follow what's exactly happening. It's still enjoyable most of the time but it is a problem that a lot of viewers had.

I like to think of it this way to support your idea of "No Limit to Ability Cards" Thing in New Vestroia They are different Ability cards with different purposes like Ability Cards that Nullifies opening Gate Cards or the activation of any more Ability Cards while upping or downing Gs A defensive Ability Card that Either Ups your bakugan Gs or drops the bakugan Gs while blocking an attack Fusion Ability Cards that increase the power of other used Ability Cards And many more! Some Brawlers use most of their best Ability cards off the gate in some battles, which is like a double-edged sword, cause if an enemy brawler uses a powerful Ability card that can Top what the other brawler uses, They may not have an ability card that can do much to stop or Negate an incoming loss So there may be some strategy involved in what Ability cards are used in battle. It MAY just be the matter of using MOST of your good Ability cards earlier or later than usual

I honestly prefer the battle system from season 2 onwards because while yes, it made the show an insanely loose adaptation of the game, we were allowed far better action as a result. However, even as a kid the show completely dropping G-Powers by episode 21 of GI onwards always bothered me. At that point you can tell the writers were slowly giving up as time went on. Hell if you actually look at the battles where we know all the abilities in play the wrong person won almost every time. Granted there is a time and a place to not have G-Powers like the huge war events where a lot of characters are battling at once, but why no G-Powers for the 1v1s or 2v2s? They didn't even needed to show the screen with the life gauges all the time they could have just shown the numbers pop up during the like they did in Dan and Spectra's battle in episode 44 of New Vestroia, or the last episode of Mechtanium Surge.

About Season 2 and onward for unlimited ability card usage, and the Shun vs Shadow Prove example, this is a pretty flimsy theory of mine. But perhaps you can only use the same ability card so many times before it counts against your limit. Or perhaps, certain bakugan (regular and traps) have a set amount of unique ability cards to them. There’s not really good proof of this, but was something I considered as a possibility as to why Shun was “down to his last card”, as he had exhausted most of them in his fight vs SP

A bit late to the comments, but I did see this vid when it was 3-4 hours old so cool I have a head canon that the Gauntlets were made cause when Vestroia became one world the Gate cards to make the battle field didn't work any more, so Vestal science made the Gauntlets that recreate the energy from the Gate card fields. Did not think about Runo's original strategy, so girl needs card upgrades. Bakugan fossils revived is neet, but could a planet that's 3 years old have fossils?(It'll be cool if it did) Another head canon, the season 3 BakuMeter was made with Earth tech mixed with Vestal tech and either they all have the time freeze ability and no one tested it in real life cause the public is told you can only use digital Bakugan in Interspace which may be true or only the Brawlers BakuMeters have that ability and Ren got some extras for his teammates before leaving the Brawlers Onto the BakuNano, I think the use of no cards is that in the event of ability locking the BakuNano can be used to continue attacking, but that's a stretch. I had an Idea of the creation of it without involving Dylan, but looking it up again I have 2 ideas now Finally, my fav gimmick is the open battle field since more action fighting can be done, but the draw back is the Battlers can get hurt more then in season 1. BakuMutant is cool, but too specific to what Bakugan can use it. Edit:forgot about season 4's Bakumeter, but I have no idea why a new model was made other than it's a new season so new design. Sorry for long comment
