As always, thank you Chris. It is so much easier when you can copy someone else with the same fault. I did log into eBay to leave a negative but too much time has passed. I actually bought this back in the summer before my holiday and never opened it so I don't have an option for feedback anymore. I did feel hard done by but now when I look for PS4s on eBay there are quite a few in that price range with no hard drives so maybe it wasn't quite as bad as I initially thought. Still bad though and way too overpriced but so are all the other broken modern gaming consoles. I thought when I mentioned the missing hard drive and cable he might offer a partial refund but I am still waiting as of now!!!

The most common thing that happened to me and a friend who sold on Ebay is buyers would pay for slowest shipping rate, and complain when 8am the next day item hadn't arrived even if payment only came through the night before, I had to have a dedicated cheapo mobile for sales due to the abusive phone calls I got threatening for stupid reasons even if it was my mistake like when I sold a blu ray player I didn't add a hdmi cable, and since he asked if it came with "all cables" and I said yes he said I was lying and wanted half his money back for the inconvenience of phoning me (over 50 harrasing calls over 2 days) Another was the fuse had died on a pc and he claimed it cost £300 to repair pc as it was dead, the pc I sold was £75 including delivery! He also complained how it didn't arrive next day.

I worked in a plant where, among other things, we processed used network switches. Some of those things have REALLY expensive parts in them, and it was not at all unusual for a broker to buy one of these, complain it didn't work, and return it, missing all the expensive parts. Well, we kept records of all these, and those records included what features were installed and the serial numbers. The brokers would get their refunds as requested, but minus the price of the parts they stole.

Not to mention that they have they're own payment and delivery system/companies (so in a way it's more akin to amazon). Socket 1366 and socket LGA-2011 are both highly pricey BOARDS! ......

eBay is such a cesspit for these kind of sellers. That was advertised as a 500gb PS4, how can that be when there’s no hard drive! I’d be straight onto eBay and getting a full refund as soon as I seen the back was missing screws, you know it’s a con straight away.
@DanHaiduc6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for making this video! It was very exciting to watch. In my country (Romania), a new PS4 is around £260. You got yours as well as donor boards for £165 (which you could sell for at least £40); so you got paid £125 + learning experience for fixing this board! A great deal if you ask me.

Game consoles will typically boot just fine without a hard drive (Xbox One is the only exception I know of). The OS is then typically stored in very fast internal flash memory. They kept having to update that memory on the Xbox 360, it went from 16MB to 256MB then 512MB. The older 16MB units required a hard drive or memory card to update, and this is why Microsoft gave away free memory cards for a time.

I am only 13 minutes into video and i am guessing you have been ripped off, at this point i would of boxed it up and returned it as someone has already messed with it. ???
@westgateprimary38206 жыл бұрын
17 mins in, just box it up and send it back and leave negative feedback or people are just going to keep selling crap, i have been on Ebay for 15 years and it wont stop until you and everyone else makes a stand (Moan over)
@mini-_6 жыл бұрын
Currently I am 4 minutes in and I already know he got ripped off. In general, if a unit has been taken apart; you know it's not gonna be an easy fix. If the screws are missing and there is no cable (when they said there would be one); you got royally ripped off.
@westgateprimary38206 жыл бұрын
End of video, glad you sorted it out and learnt a lot, enjoyed the video but still should leave a negative feedback and stop them doing it to others.
@mrfoameruk6 жыл бұрын
You say you conversed with the seller...Didnt you ask for a partial refund as there was a LOT more wrong with it then listed. Their problem is not your problem. Either a partial refund that you are happy with or return. If returned neg for wasting time and falsly advertisng the item. Feedback is there for a reason.... To help other buyers. I hate seeing people ripped on ebay...Buyers and sellers.
@Mymatevince6 жыл бұрын
After the initial conversing it has all gone quiet. I don't like leaving negative feedback as sometimes I may not know the full story but on this item and also the water damaged hoverboard from a couple of months ago then I think it is justified.

It should be boring to watch this but my god it was compelling I couldn't stop watching it. He should have named the seller who sold him this POS to help people as eBay is a dodgy place for the uninitiated and you can really leave a bad review. That said a good video which shows that you should not give up cheers Vince
@DanHaiduc6 жыл бұрын
Indeed. I think public shaming would work, though not as well as the in-your-face review, if mate Vince had checked the board before the feedback deadline expired.

this is absolutely BRILLIANT !!! Well Done, the sheer perciverance alone & the truth to be told for breaking things down for bite sized fixing is what made my day today !! Thanks for sharing and excellent soldering - by the way, it had got to a stage that i was once doing a lot of SMD Soldering which i love doing, but i was going through too much Chip-Quik so did a bit of investigative work and so, when you run out - Now just go and buy 100g worth of BISMUTH and thatll lower the temps to a low enough point to safely remove components without so much heat. 100g of Bismuth is cheap as chips compared to the expensive stuff and please - PASS ON this info to as many like-minded folks like us as possible so that repairing doesnt have to be super expensive for the masses :) Again well done, most-excellent video, keep inspiring us all fella, hats off to ya !!

What kind of monster takes out cables from the board?! Edit: or takes components off the mobo?!?! Awesome job on the fiddly fix of the disc drive!

I''d guess that (assuming the seller didnt lie) that the first person they sold it to that took the hard drive probably stipped it of parts for another PS4 then returned it, Would explain alot of the weird issues.

your mentor, Louis Rossmann, would be mostly proud of you, but he would recommend that you get a serious soldering iron with the heating element in the tip such as Hakko FX-951 and also some new sharp multimeter test leads.

I agree. Speak up Vince. You will need to do something. You will need to let the seller know that they have done something they shouldn't have and tell eBay. You have an influence and the evidence.

Anything labelled as ‘spares or repair’ will not give you ANY PROTECTION AT ALL OR ANY CHANCE OF A REFUND. Had that problem twice before and never again. Also some buyers get it home, swap over the replacement parts they want, then return it as ‘faulty’ without the sellers knowledge!! I mark everything with a UV pen now and mark everything as no returns. At least I can quietly take a return if I think it’s genuine but I would make sure everything works before shipping.
@alexatkin6 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's entirely true as it still wasn't as described. If there were other faults but nothing was actually missing, fair enough, but things not being there without mentioning it in the listing should have some merit. Like you said, they do tend to side with the buyer in these cases, frustratingly sometimes when they were lying.
@amigaman94336 жыл бұрын
when buying something like this is to ask if the security tags have been broken or tampered with and has it been opened up, if yes to either just walk away
@DanHaiduc6 жыл бұрын
Matthew Fox: Why exactly do you mark with a UV pen? To see if they returned a wholly different board? Edit: oh, I read your whole comment, and it's also the parts.
@matzex18196 жыл бұрын
@@DanHaiduc i was thinking about mark stuff i sell myself but there is no need to if you follow your own rule: no return, always. if you do good they cant do shit. and avoid paypal. or if you really want to use it take the money instantly to your bank account. would never give paypal the money back for not rightful refunds. if you did nothing wrong they only can kick you out. of course some sellers believe that means they can sell every broken crap as new. they dont understand: you can sell everything if you dont lie or hide negative things about the stuff you sell. its silly to mention: get knowledge. with some peopel i dont even argue. let them tarve on a stiff arm.

this ps4 is like refurbishing a 100 year old house. A single might seem simple but once you get into the deeper parts of the house more problems show up and you spend a lot of time and resources just to have a properly working house.

I would have sent it back. It's far beyond his description. Said nothing about missing all the screws, thermal pads, hard drive, WiFi antenna, bad BR drive or the myriad of other things.. including the power cable they said it came with. Even that stuff about another amateur fuddling around inside it.. really? I bought over a thousand things from eBay and only had to deal with liars twice. Both sold used items as new. I never buy used electronics outside the GTX-1080 that I bought 3 months ago that said it was less than 6 months old.. and as it turned out, when I registered it on EVGA's site, it was 4 months old. Looked brand new. You just need to be careful and always scrutinize *before* you buy it.

Fair play on getting that working again, I probably would have given up on it with so many problems. Well done!
