@@Mymatevince You say in the video "Ebay needs to sort this out" But in order for ebay to know there is a problem you have to report. You should at least get your money back for it as it was clearly falsley advertised. Spectacular repair this one!!! So many small and large issues there! I would leave that seller a -ve for sure, and ask for a partial refund for the parts you had to order that they did not mention (eg. chips for the drive, missing screws, missing HDD and caddy etc). Great job!!!!!

As always, thank you Chris. It is so much easier when you can copy someone else with the same fault. I did log into eBay to leave a negative but too much time has passed. I actually bought this back in the summer before my holiday and never opened it so I don't have an option for feedback anymore. I did feel hard done by but now when I look for PS4s on eBay there are quite a few in that price range with no hard drives so maybe it wasn't quite as bad as I initially thought. Still bad though and way too overpriced but so are all the other broken modern gaming consoles. I thought when I mentioned the missing hard drive and cable he might offer a partial refund but I am still waiting as of now!!!

Sometimes it’s hard to leave negative feedback. But this IS justified. The item was described by its seller as ‘as working in good condition’. We know that cannot have been the case given the damage to the board(s) as well as its missing parts. That’s just a POS conning people 🤷‍♂️ Personally, alarm bells rang when I saw the one sentence, brief as you like description. Screams fishy. Wasn’t surprised when it was a bag of bones but an absolutely superb effort to get that PS4 a new lease of life 👏 Enjoyed every minute of this vid.

Excellent repair. I also used to buy faulty PS3s and most often the description understates what the faults actually are. They are time consumers and parts are too expensive to buy. You most often end up with the price of a healthy used console with accessories. I noticed that most cheaters don't include the HDD and controller.

The most common thing that happened to me and a friend who sold on Ebay is buyers would pay for slowest shipping rate, and complain when 8am the next day item hadn't arrived even if payment only came through the night before, I had to have a dedicated cheapo mobile for sales due to the abusive phone calls I got threatening for stupid reasons even if it was my mistake like when I sold a blu ray player I didn't add a hdmi cable, and since he asked if it came with "all cables" and I said yes he said I was lying and wanted half his money back for the inconvenience of phoning me (over 50 harrasing calls over 2 days) Another was the fuse had died on a pc and he claimed it cost £300 to repair pc as it was dead, the pc I sold was £75 including delivery! He also complained how it didn't arrive next day.

I worked in a plant where, among other things, we processed used network switches. Some of those things have REALLY expensive parts in them, and it was not at all unusual for a broker to buy one of these, complain it didn't work, and return it, missing all the expensive parts. Well, we kept records of all these, and those records included what features were installed and the serial numbers. The brokers would get their refunds as requested, but minus the price of the parts they stole.

Nice work. You should contact the seller for a partial refund, since the seller knew the disc drive was faulty and still claimed that it was only a HDMI issue, plus the cables were missing as well. If the seller refuses, file a claim with eBay and they'll sort it out. But you have to do it soon, I don't know how long you've had this but after a certain period of time (2 months?) you can no longer file a claim with eBay. There's an option "item not as described" for cases just like this.

Here in Brazil there's somewhat of an equivalent site called "Mercado Livre" (literal translaton being Free Market). It operates over all of Latin America and honestly it's one of the best ways to buy products around here, not only online. They have a fantastic return policy and consumer safety system set up on top of the reliability of the reviews. Not to mention that they have they're own payment and delivery system/companies (so in a way it's more akin to amazon). I find it somewhat disheartening to hear that the "big daddy" of these online trading websites haven't really kept up with the competition, I can only hope that eBay improves on some of it's policies and overall consumer safety in the future... I am going to-learn myself as I have a Motherboard for an AM3 socket that I LOVE and is Super rare, not super sought after by super LOVED by me so I want to fix the one blown chip from overclocking I see blown and was able to pull off, maybe I can replace it with a similar from one of my old broken computer boards.... 17 mins in, just box it up and send it back and leave negative feedback or people are just going to keep selling crap, i have been on Ebay for 15 years and it wont stop until you and everyone else makes a stand (Moan over)

Currently I am 4 minutes in and I already know he got ripped off. In general, if a unit has been taken apart; you know it's not gonna be an easy fix. If the screws are missing and there is no cable (when they said there would be one); you got royally ripped off.

You say you conversed with the seller...Didnt you ask for a partial refund as there was a LOT more wrong with it then listed. Their problem is not your problem. Either a partial refund that you are happy with or return. If returned neg for wasting time and falsly advertisng the item. Feedback is there for a reason.... To help other buyers. I hate seeing people ripped on ebay...Buyers and sellers.
@Mymatevince

After the initial conversing it has all gone quiet. I don't like leaving negative feedback as sometimes I may not know the full story but on this item and also the water damaged hoverboard from a couple of months ago then I think it is justified.

Game consoles will typically boot just fine without a hard drive (Xbox One is the only exception I know of). The OS is then typically stored in very fast internal flash memory. They kept having to update that memory on the Xbox 360, it went from 16MB to 256MB then 512MB. The older 16MB units required a hard drive or memory card to update, and this is why Microsoft gave away free memory cards for a time.

Good for you. Wonderful that you were able to put everything back together and in perfect working condition. Shame to the seller, but despite all the frustration you were able to work everything out. The most precious moments when you are getting this thing plugged or even anything, and it clicks and starts to work as intended. Working myself at the electronics repair shop and later on programming to this day... you can never get enough of that feeling and just claps seeing something getting back to life. Again, wonderful and big congratulations to a success of yours. May the force of the PS4 be with you, mate!

I think it's time to leave a VERY negative review on that ass-wipe who sold you the unit NEVER divulging that their were so many other issues with the PS4. If that had been me I would have begun a complaint against the seller. In the US we take LYING on E-Bay very seriously. I has an issue with a Xbox 360 that in the end the seller HAD to refund the money back to me and I was asked to send the item back to the seller. It's one thing to state the item is in a "as-is" condition, it's another to lie about it. But for your part mate, WELL DONE!!! I hope you enjoy your NOW WORKING PS4 for years to come!!! YOU ROCK MATE!!!

Anything labelled as ‘spares or repair’ will not give you ANY PROTECTION AT ALL OR ANY CHANCE OF A REFUND. Had that problem twice before and never again. Also some buyers get it home, swap over the replacement parts they want, then return it as ‘faulty’ without the sellers knowledge!! I mark everything with a UV pen now and mark everything as no returns. At least I can quietly take a return if I think it’s genuine but I would make sure everything works before shipping.
@alexatkin

I don't think that's entirely true as it still wasn't as described. If there were other faults but nothing was actually missing, fair enough, but things not being there without mentioning it in the listing should have some merit. Like you said, they do tend to side with the buyer in these cases, frustratingly sometimes when they were lying.

@@DanHaiduc i was thinking about mark stuff i sell myself but there is no need to if you follow your own rule: no return, always. if you do good they cant do shit. and avoid paypal. or if you really want to use it take the money instantly to your bank account. would never give paypal the money back for not rightful refunds. if you did nothing wrong they only can kick you out. of course some sellers believe that means they can sell every broken crap as new. they dont understand: you can sell everything if you dont lie or hide negative things about the stuff you sell. its silly to mention: get knowledge. with some peopel i dont even argue. let them tarve on a stiff arm.

I would have sent it back. It's far beyond his description. Said nothing about missing all the screws, thermal pads, hard drive, WiFi antenna, bad BR drive or the myriad of other things.. including the power cable they said it came with. Even that stuff about another amateur fuddling around inside it.. really? I bought over a thousand things from eBay and only had to deal with liars twice. Both sold used items as new. I never buy used electronics outside the GTX-1080 that I bought 3 months ago that said it was less than 6 months old.. and as it turned out, when I registered it on EVGA's site, it was 4 months old. Looked brand new. You just need to be careful and always scrutinize *before* you buy it.
