Fixing electronics is a gold mine. I was looking for a switch for our family and the going rate (in Australia) at the time was $300+ second hand. I guy was selling one with a few issues for $140 with the dock so I took a gamble. Just needed two new ribbon cables (one for each joycon) and a new right rail on the switch and it worked 100% Total cost of parts to me was $14 and about 30 minutes to complete. I think people need to not be scared to open up and replace parts on things.

Having done the same thing with other tech I can tell you that I average about 2 out of 3 that can be fixed while the other one can be used as a parts machine. As long as you shoot for being able to make a small profit from fixing the first one you will be able to consistently come out ahead.

Trouble is Labour at an hourly rate will have a very large impact on net profit. Seeing as you are in the UK and use sterling just have spreadsheet columns for labour and tax and then we can see real profit (net). No confusion then.
@Vincent_Beers Жыл бұрын
He's doing the work himself though, so the labor is the profit. Once all other costs are factored you calculate the remainder as profits per hour, that's your net.

This series seems absolutely interesting :) I'd love to do such microsoldering repairs myself. I once bought a Macbook, repaired the Logic board and sold it again. Did a horrible job on that one, had to make a jumper wire and no clue, what I was doing there actually :) I'd love, if this series had its own balance account. E.g. you start with 50£ and only basic equipment and work your way up from there :)

With some screens with a dead or non working backlight you can sometimes shine a flashlight on it and you can vaguely see the screen if it's on.
@drcyb3r Жыл бұрын
You should replace the serial number sticker with the original one. For me it wouldn't be a complete repair without everything being correct with the new one. Or simply transfer the screen to the other chassis. People might buy a blue one for a higher price than a yellow one.

On the first Switch Lite I would of done a trick I use to do on laptops and LCD screens in the 90's to mid 2000's to determine if it was the screen of just the backlight. Shine a high powered flash light across the screen at an angle, if the LCD is working with no backlight you should be able to see a faint image on the screen if you get the light and your head positioned right. Which would say bad backlight. Otherwise probably be a bad LCD panel. Also from my experience the backlight or backlight power invertor goes out way more often than the LCD itself.

Man, if a case can sell for 30 quid, wouldn't it be most profitable to buy these broken systemes, fix them until you know all the parts work, and then just sell every single part separately as tested repair parts? I understand that that's a lot more tedious, but it seems like you could really maximize the profit per unit that way.
