That Switch hole is a (failed) Kamikaze method installation of a RP2040 chip. That's supposed to find point C that's under NAND memory. No idea why people still do this method when a good installed flex works like a charm with no risks
@rainonme1104 ай бұрын
Only time I do kamikaze is when I get a board that they damaged the emmc. if you have to reball the emmc, the adapters don’t fit worth a damn after
@gamblerofrats4 ай бұрын
Dat0 adapters are known to oxidise and break loose. They fail anywhere between a few months and a few years. The kamikaze method is 100x better for longevity and is easy once practiced.
@davidroman24944 ай бұрын
@@gamblerofrats Highly doubt they fail if you reflow the EMMC
@gamblerofrats4 ай бұрын
@@davidroman2494 Reflow can cause solder cracking, and is arguably a similar difficulty to doing the kamikaze. Most chip installers prefer friction fit or kamikaze.

I’ve done many long screw damage on iPhone boards. Start by looking at an original board in that area and see if it looks the same. Scrape away at the donor. It saves companies money by only changing what is needed for newer versions. So some areas are different and some are the same. You will find that trace layouts are simple and you just need to make micro jumpers across the broken traces. You are probably right that the 2nd layer is ground. Third layer is usually power but that depends on how many layers that board is. I design and layout pcb’s and can tell you that after watching your vids, you have the skills to repair that.

if you had the schematics. you COULD attempt a fix. 06:50 because you can overlay the schematics and see what traces those are. and then you can just fill that hole up with solder mask. and then run wires from where ever it's comming from and wherever it's going. (you CAN get your hands on these schematics. but it's technicly shady if you have those files when not AT work at nintendo.

No need to pull the white stickers of the back panel just disconnect the antennas and unscrew it, it will just lift away from the switch. the hole in the board is from the kamikaze method of doing a mod install, you grind away 3 layers of the PCB to expose the D0 trace from the nand, The seller or who ever owned it killed the D0 trace so its in RCM mode, repair for it will be to cover the hole with some UV mask and drop like a solder ball into the hole to try an restore the trace or slot in a d0 flex under the nand and add a modchip to make it boot

Bought a hot air + solder tip solder station recently and snagged a few broken consoles to mess with. Recently saw your channel recommended after a Tronics Fix video and have been absolutely hooked on this series. Between his vids and yours, getting the itch to try about with it. Keeping an eye out for a decent deal on a Switch to try a RP2040 chip mod after I get some practice in with the station on these broken ones. Any tips for someone who has never soldered on pcb before? Most of my solder experience is just wire to wire, like installing car audio.

Do you include Postage & Packing in your calculations - are these real profits? (and they don't include your labour of course )🙃
@JoeyDoesTech4 ай бұрын
The price I state to sell always excludes postage which is then paid by the buyer, however I don't take into considering the packaging. MOST of the time, the packaging is just re used from the item I buy faulty, however there are occasions where I use new boxes/bubble wrap which isn't taken into the costs :)
@johnr34354 ай бұрын
@@JoeyDoesTech I'm always stunned at how much things go for on eBay even when sold for spares or repair. Seems almost impossible to get a real bargain on there.
