Finally some watch work again, thank you! You know, your channel was the first place I watched (pun intended) this kind of content and I now watch a lot of other watch channels -- and that's the nice thing about being a generalist fixer like yourself: you open a whole lot of new types of content that I can find on other channels, and that's part of how brilliant your content is! By the way the Sicura is really nice indeed, but the movement on the Bulova is something else, so mesmerizing!

Thanks Felipe!!!! I would like to buy another faulty Bulova to see if it has an electrical fault rather than a mechanical one. Looks like an amazing piece of engineering and still very accurate all these years later 👍👍👍

Hi Vince, I can help with a few things: To remove the Sicura case back "correctly" it needs a special die. It looks similar to the case backs still used in current day Breitling - There's a set of about 14 different size dies to cover all of their models. You can also use a rubber ball if the back isn't on super tight, or there are case opening "suction grip" dies. I'm impressed it came off like that with the jaxa tool! The shock resistant setting you highlight on the Omega is called incabloc and it's one of if not the most popular forms of shock setting. They make the life of a watchmaker much easier when it comes to oiling the balance jewels. The type of shock protection on the donor watch looks like it's a style of kif system. There are so many types of shock resistant settings! Fitting a shock protected balance assembly into a non-shock protected movement won't work properly. As you point out, it's very easy for a balance staff to break without shock protection. To get the Sicura running well it looks like it needs a complete strip down & service - ideally you want a nice clean line across your timegrapher, though you probably know that already :-) R.e. The Accutron - so Bulova say, they beat at 360Hz - so that compares to high beat mechanical watches which beat at 5Hz! They're nice movements and very collectible. Anyway, Great video as ever - it's always fun to see you looking at some watches! Cheers!

That Bulova is amazing. The other one needs a complete service, it can run great but it needs a full clean and re-lube, it's irregular because of the dried oils and gunk inside. There is no way around this.

Top tip with casebacks, if its so locked up you can't move it with tools, simply using a good wodge of super glue superglue a large flat nut to the caseback and allow to harden, when cured just put the case in a holder or some sort of soft protected vice and use a wrench to undo the nut. When the caseback is off soak the case back and nut in acetone which dissolves the superglue and job done.

Mike of course is your man with Accutron's all day long, btw if you fancy a change in watchery, I just bought the Lorus Y676c Automatic and its just lovely, the Y676 is a Sii 7S26C and superb workhorse. I also bought this week a Lorus Fusion Kinetic with the "star trek-esque" case, just waiting on a new capacitor from Cousins which cost £6 and that too will be a wearer :)

Cheers Karthik. Yes that is strange. Maybe like you say it is to be read as in between???? On Wiki it does state that "Calcutta Time remained in effect until 1948 when it was abandoned in favour of IST" but this watch was over 24 years after that. I suppose the fact that it is a part hour and not a full hour puts the bezel out, and looks wise it wouldn't look as symmetrical with a marking inbetween the hours. Very confusing though for someone unaware of the time difference. 👍

i find it intresting that some mechanical watches have features outside of just the time (such as showing the date) athough in terms of using a watch, i much prefer digital ones (until recently i had a digital watch which had quite a few features, it displayed the day of the week and the date (to get the month a button had to be held in), it also had a stopwatch, an alarm clock, a countdown timer, and even a second time zone (the second time zone could only be set with the minuites either the same as the main time zone, or 30 minuites off from the main time zone), i find it a bit of a shame that the strap on it broke (the strap was made out of some sort of rubber like material)

My dad 7sed to repair watches and clock as a side business in the 60s and 70s. Timing equivalent was way too expensive back then it was normal to be out by a few minutes a day, never a problem, just set it when you wind it. Even new watches could be out by a minute 9r 2. He used to regulate them and aim bet 0 and +3m per day. So you got that probablybetter than new.,

Nice watches :) I really should get back into changing my broken Casio digital watch strap. Previous attempt failed as the pins weren't compatible with new strap, even it was supposedly an original Casio part. Just need to find compatible set of pins and see if the strap I tried to install is still ok :P

Im surprised that Sicura didn't have shock protection already. They went to the trouble of putting in 23 jewels, you'd think they'd put in an incabloc spring or two.

Learn so much from your videos. However, NEVER polish anything on a watch, other than the crystal. All you need are cotton tipped buds, the micro ones are best. Get one of those foam dispenser watch cleaners. Put some foam on watch, soaked cotton bud to get wet, then gently rub it over watch. When bud gets dirty, time for a new bud. Again wet bud before starting to wipe again. By keeping watch surface slightly wet, continued gently wiping action of a wet bud tip, will transfer dirt from watch to bud, with no scratching. It takes time. By keeping watch wet with foam, dirt and debris are suspended in moisture, and its no where near as abrasive. I can get a watch cleaner than ultrasonic this way, but it takes time. The watch ends up so clean, and facets, lines and all, remain crisp and fresh. The shine/cleanliness often overwhelms the appearance of fine scratches. Laborious, and you do it very gently, but results are oustanding.

Disclosure - I am a total amateur. That stepping on the timegrapher is probably caused by grot in between the jewel and the capstone on top of the balance. I did one where the timegrapher looked a lot like that this week You need to split them, clean them, oil them with 9010 and put them back together. I would use the first movement as a practice movement. Take it apart, clean it, and oil it many times. It doesn't matter if you break it. That's how I learnt to get tricky train bridges and things back on without it taking 2 hours or snapping a pivot on a wheel. Alternatively you can sell each part for a few quid. Second thing. You can get a mechanical watch to sweep like that - Have a look at Grand Seiko spring drives. Very exy but possible

If you’re going to continue to buy used automatic watches you really need to tear them down properly and clean them correctly because a lot of times thes mechanical watches stop working due to being very dirty and the oils have dried up and thickened causing the movement to slow or stop. Without knowing how to properly service these watches chances are you’re going to do more damage than good also there’s tons of great videos on KZbin showing how to service automatic watches.
