Well done. I have never used gauche, still learning watercolors, this was helpful. I watch Sara Burns, she is a complete master when it comes to Gauche

Great info. I like when you use food terms for the consistency you’re looking for. Very helpful! Thanks.

Best advice I was given for gouache was fat over lean, thinner paint to begin with thicker paint over the top. I find a natural yoghurt consistency the easiest to work with, but it does vary a bit with different pigments. The more neutral based pigments tend to need more water added to them. I've also found that blending medium helps too, it slows the drying time and allows for a longer working time both in the pallette and on the painting. Windsor and newton is the one I use, but I'm sure they'll be others on the market. Happy painting @emma Lefabve

I always mix a dollop of natural/organic honey mixed well into the gouache (watercolor too) and let them dry. I activate the gouache (watercolor), mix the water into gouache, and let sit for about 1 minute or so. It becomes creamy and glide's on smoothly. Has wonderful coverage almost like acrylic. Also don't use a heavy hand. Very little pressure on the brush will stop almost all streaking that can occur.

I’m still trying to get the hang of gouache but it gets a little easier every time. For me it just isn’t as intuitive as watercolor. I’ve also noticed that there’s a wide variety of consistency from one color to another. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I’m still wondering the difference between gouache and matte acrylic. It’s controlled with water, has a matte consistency (if you buy the matte), and is easy to clean up with water.
