This is sick!!! I saw a comment you posted and I have watched a ton of Zach Hill and Greg Saunier stuff, wanted to ask how you built speed? Like was there anything you noticed has helped without you trying to do that just has helped???

Thanks! Once I started playing to a met, it got easy. Find a comfy bpm and get really consistent with any and all beats you can think of. Raise it by 5, rinse and repeat. It comes with time, all about putting in the hours.

sounds great man! best tips for working on single pedal kick technique?
@maxxisntbored Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah sure! Here's an old comment pasted, and then I'll add some new insights for ya: "Essentially, I watched a lot of Zach [Hill] and realized he was just doing the same motion over and over. For each person it may be a bit different, but I slide my foot from mid-pedal to front quickly, and let some bounce-back turn it into two strokes instead of one. Start really slow to figure out how it works and then practice enough to get it as fast as you want. I have a DW 7000 and I know Zach uses an Iron Cobra. Hope this helps a bit!" Also - I realized it's easiest at first to work double strokes in between snare/tom hits, rather than a pair of doubles starting a phrase. X = Snare o = bass drum o o x x x o o x x x / / much more difficult x x x x o o x x x x o o / / easier Last thing on my mind (don't worry, happy to help) - when you start getting pretty fast with doubles, you essentially have to start the movement of your foot (described above) as your stick is coming down- there's a bit of delay, essentially. It really only starts to matter as you speed up. Good luck!

The ultimate question for drummers of this era...can we do single pedal to replace double? I have been working on this problem myself since getting a kit again a year ago. Double strokes like this are very good, but I also irrational believe fast consecutive singles is somehow possible...maybe heel toe but slowed and more vigorous...I consider "Blue Monday" bass drum pattern to be the benchmark...that is doable in my opinion, though it might take some insane practice / technique.

Interesting question. I'll say, there's some patterns possible with two pedals that you simply can't do with one. Especially when BPM comes into play. With two pedals you have twice the equipment, twice the muscle, and far more possibilities combining singles/doubles, etc. Blue Monday is tough! I gave it a go... I can almost hit that, but lose attack as I get to the end of that long phrase. I have found that the fastest singles happen when I rotate my foot a bit with each hit and stay on the ball of my foot. Something fun to work on! Thanks
