FishMan has a good video going over some different designs of air lifters, and then the swiss tropicals matten filter Air Lift they sell has ultra tiny holes, they claim to reduce biofilm build up(if the water cant flow back into the drilled holes due to air pressure, then biofilm cant develop, in theory) This was a great update Rumballs, thanks for sharing!

I'll have a look I think my holes are 1mm. Interestingly some clog and some don't

What size air pump are you using?

if you want flow volume a wider diamter pipe is better. If you want head lift the narrower pipe will be better. To reduce splash having the pipe elbow 50% above and below the water surface level will give optimal results as the air and water can separate somewhat before exiting.

Yeh cheers I wasn't getting the volume as the pipe was way to big for the amount of air I did some trials 12 months ago

@@RumballsFishroom Indeed the volume of air and the bubble density all contribute. The holes and stones get clogged with biofilm growing in the high oxygen environment. So also finding the best drill bit as a happy median is also key. Now that I see you have Bakki rods in the pipe lengths the configuration makes far more sense to me now... You could also try different lengths of uplift pipe without the elbow about half way up the tank as this will stop diffused bubbles from collecting up into bigger bubbles and reduce surface splash without impacting exit flow by much...Longer pipes are mainly required to create lift above surface level as in an actual pump head lift.

Yeh awesome that biofilm is what I was unaware of I'm glad I can clean it now I never used to be able to reach it
