I’m a console player, and controller overwatch is pretty good actually, except for one massive dealbreaker. There’s no setting to change your stick deadzone, which speaking as someone who competitively plays other shooters, is an extremely important setting

Thankfully there’s some really great controller settings that affect the micro adjustments. Aim ease in is the most important, the lower the number the more linear the curve, if you put it too low it will feel twitchy, and too high will feel unresponsive. Experimenting to find your own sweet spot is essential imo, but I have mine typically between 15-30. Aim smoothing is also important, though not to the same degree. This setting controls the ramp up speed, from minimum to maximum sensitivity, and this one is also of course to taste. If you don’t like a speed ramp up at all set it to 0, but I find 10-20 works best for me. This doesn’t negate the need for aim assist and it will take time to get used to, but if you run both of those settings on the lower end, it can help a lot.

actually the system to ask for heals and such is done pretty well considering you are on a controller. I can do it in one movement and you actually only have to press 1 button and flick the stick in the right direction which can be done as one combined movement making it pretty much as quick as a single button press so "ask for healing" in this case was just Down + Flick the stick to the right and let go immediately, you can basically do it so fast you don't even see the menu pop-up. (For voicelines and emotes it's 2 buttons and a flick)

@@seakay3826 yeah sometimes that does happen if you are too quick. The pins are especially impossible so it's best to just bind the smart pin to a single button. Because holding it and then selecting the right pin takes way too long. I also usually have affirmative bound to one of the d-pad arrows. (I think you at least used to be able to say "attack/defend the objective if you pressed that while aiming at the objective) But for sorry, thanks, hello this system tends to work fine.

im guessing one of the hardest thing with overwatch without aim assist compare to something like Siege is that there is both a vertical and horizontal gameplay. In siege, you can get away with not having the perfect aim because most fight are close quarters with the height of people always being the same. So it's all about position. In overwatch, you have small, tall, large characters, with different elevation, so im sure it's even harder to be accurate.

For sure. I came from Escape from Tarkov, which has it's own difficult aiming (drop, various different bullet velocities, exaggerated recoil) and OW was definitely challenging to adjust to. No only the vertical movement, but the varying speeds of targets. Not easy to predict where a good player is going.

Also when u pull up the wheel for emotes and voices, like healing and ult charge, you use the right thumbstick to move around and choose the command u wanna do. Emotes is also s combination, being down on dpad and pressing right bumper to get to them. Then same as b4 is the rihht thumbstick.

I’ve been asking about this for weeks since I started playing the game. Please implement Gyro controls Blizzard. The Switch version has them and gyro controls close the gap between mouse and controller aiming. Please just make a setting for it on other consoles/PC. You literally already have the code and settings for it since it’s on Switch. So why can’t they implement it?

As a console player who had to play without aim assist any time that I played with my best buddy who's on PC, I know the struggle. Every time I grouped with him, I needed like 2-3 "warm-up rounds" just so I could get a handle on it. Really it was muscle memory slowing me down, as the aim assist was there to correct me and stop me from overshooting my movements. Without it, I had to rely on me correcting everything manually, which had to take time for me to get the movements memorized. After warming up I could aim just as well as I did without aim assist, but it's definitely a transition. It also affected me anytime I went BACK to console lobbies, because now I would start undershooting my shots and fire too early. Again just needed to get used to it to be back to normal lol. Thankfully I don't have to live with that anymore due to the cross play change

Aim assist is also not foolproof, I mean it can drag you aim away from a certain enemy/turret etc. if another enemy moves across your aim. But it’s still necessary to keep up with the whole arm movements of mouse aim.

Plus not all games have aim assist, PC has better specs, can lower graphics settings, hundreds of fps, usually better connection. M&K is better overall imo. And they can hotkey a lot of extra stuff.

The best way to increase your accuracy on controller is not up your sensitivity the best way to go about it is to lower your sensitivity to a comfortable level and mix movement and aiming.

The true best way is to not throw muscle memory out and let it build up. Don't change your settings at all after you first adjust it. The constant changing and adjusting isn't good for you and can actually hurt that practice you've put in because now you need to relearn and adjust to the changes before even getting better

@@hanin4438 Honestly I disagree. Practicing at high sens or without aim assist builds up your core aim, and conditions your hands to finer and finer movements. If you are used to finer movements on a higher sens, finer movements on a slower sens with will be easier. The only thing I wouldn't practice in a different sensitivity is flicking, as that is pure muscle memory and shouldn't be messed with. Of course I also use Linear ramp with a high ass sens that hurt my hands before getting kontrol freeks so maybe I just like making it hard on myself lol.

I am a controller tank player with a PS controller playing on the laptop xD (in OW1, I was plat on PS4, but here I am struggling to rank up) I never learned how to use the mouse and keyboard for games, and I feel so inept that whenever I try, I immediately give up. I need to look up the keyboard and remember which key does what... it is so painful.

I started playing on PC just before last summer. Force yourself into it, die, lose, struggle. It clicks at some point and you refuse to go back, I played OW exclusively on console since launch because I couldn’t get a pc, now I’d never go back to console/controller for fps games. Also don’t fall in the high sensitivity bait on MnK, especially on hitscans you need precision. I got a full desk mousepad so I can afford to play low sens, but you can manage with a medium one or maybe a bit higher sens than usual. I play on 800 dpi 6 sens.

PC player here who only uses a controller. once you get the sensitivity right for your flicks you can pretty much play any hit scan and hit your shots. i can now duel phara-mercys, duel widows, hit genji and what not. even with ana hitting those shots are pretty easy. I'm mid plat in all my roles at the moment since i worked my way from bronze to plat for everything. but in all honesty, controller is better for characters like Winston, rein, moria, brig etc...... IMO just cause aiming isn't strongly required.

Now do it on a Nintendo Switch and you'll experience what I go through every time my friend wants to play Overwatch. He's on PC and I'm on Switch, so I get put into pc lobbies while I'm using a controller on the objectively worst-performing console possible. Asking for heals takes a minimum of 3 seconds to load the menus each time, and even then doesn't work half the time. Biggest reason I love Reinhardt is because it takes no aim to swing the big hammer

The key to doing well on controller is having the correct sensitivity and aim assist settings, there are some great guides on YT which go into detail about what each of the advanced settings does and how to find what works best for you. Playing without aim assist is just a terrible idea LOL, you either can't hit anything or turn at a snail's pace. Fun video though

There's a massive difference between console siege and console overwatch. Most of the skills don't carry over even if you haven't taken a long break. For starters, siege is made on an entirely different engine. This is important for controllers, and when comparing vastly different engines you can feel the quality and smoothing on stick controls. If you want a drastic difference like I'm talking about, check out the PlayStation or Xbox port of something like Planetside 2. Now some people might find the feeling of that game better than worse but it is different feeling immediately. Though I hate it personally. About as smooth as my hitting my one liners on the Starbucks employee. My second point being the environment and pace of the game. in siege there is next to no challenge of verticality, making the only thing you have to really worry about is adjusting your aim left or right, aside from the recoil control. In overwatch enemies can close distances, get behind or above you, and generally move around much faster. Making it difficult to pinpoint exactly where to shoot and lead said shots. Not to mention in siege, it's 80% holding an angle and predicting where an enemy is going to come from and if they are going to be rounding the corner standing crouched or prone. Unless you are playing a 3-speed. In which case you need to go outside. (Myself included seeing as Im a bandit main. Mp7 for life bb.

I came from nintendo switch to pc. Am an old dude and is hard to rewire my muscle memory from controller to mouse/keyboard. I tried but was getting my team kicked so I reverted to controller. In time you get used to the lack of aim assist. You will never be able to consistently win 1v1 vs hitscans like hanzo or widow, but if you are smart and pick the right counter you can add value.

Please note flats that controller sensitivity and mouse sensitivity are mixed together for some reason but I hope they don't fix it as useing this fact has helped me aim better with a controller

The worst character to play on controller are flying heroes like Pharah, echo and ESPECIALLY mercy. It’s so hard controlling your fly and glide and also focusing on movement and your dmg/healing/boosts. When you’re holding X (I use a Ps5 controller) you can’t rly move around with your right joystick. I would say the hardest hero to play on console is mercy, and the characters that you don’t rly need to aim with a lot are the easiest like rein, moira, brig, mei (primary fire).

I play controller on PC and have peaked gold in dps and plat in tank and support. Pretty happy with where I'm at as the struggle is tough sometimes. You get flamed A LOT, especially if u que dps. If you try to explain you are on controller they usually just say "I'm pretty sure I could do better than you on controller"

my best guess is identify the most essential inputs and make sure those are on buttons you can use while aiming. for kiri i put her shooting and healing on the higher bumpers and abilites down low (swift step on right trigger for example) jump/crouch i threw on the sticks, put reload & ping on the directional buttons, ult on square and melee on x. theres just so many inputs now (on some characters) and the game is so fast that everything ypu need should be somewhere reactable without hindering your ability to aim

I'd love to see you try controller with gyro aiming setup via either Steam Input or DS4Windows. The Dualsense controller is very nice for gyro aiming. Wish they would just make it work natively like how they have it on Switch.

Hot Take, make Hog a DPS hero, match his hp with Bastion, Decrease his oneshot capability to 180 dmg cap (Melee included) Have his breather give a small speed boost with slightly less dmg reduction. IMO could either be anywhere between busted or terrible. Possibly change a dps to tank, maybe bastion, maybe mei, maybe even torb idk. Thoughts on this anyone?
