I think mid-level hybrid Ferraris probably will fall in value lower than older pure ICE Ferraris. Once the seven year extended Ferrari warranty is over, there aren’t going to be many people wanting to take the risk with a £20k 296 battery. Buyers of out of warranty cars are going to much prefer F8, 488, Pistas, 458, than take the risk of a hybrid. Different market to £3m LaFerrari.

Do gt3 owners do this? Surely if one can afford a gt3 and buying a gt3 is for hard/track driving you want ceramics?
@pistonburner644810 ай бұрын
@@Taylor40667 No, the opposite. They took off the ceramics. At least in the early generation 997 GT3s. The ceramics will still wear fast enough in track use to make their cost very high. And above all there is a huge risk of a stone hitting them and damaging them. Better to use steel discs for track use and just keep swapping them out when needed as they and the pads for them cost nothing compared to the ones with ceramics. Proper steel discs with track-suitable pads will stop the car perfectly well on track.

But most people (me for example) don't trust them: hybrid, very complex cars technically, who would get one after the warranty expires... nobody. Also, every year there's a new hybrid coming out with better performance, autonomy, efficiency.. However, there will never be a new F12 TDF or 458. Naturally aspirated, V8 or V12.

So I listen to your podcast every week when I am out on my weekend ‘easy run’ as part of my half marathon training. I have heard countless times you and Tony talk about ‘Super SUV’s’ and asking what the point is. Allow me to explain - I am a petrolhead through and through, at 41yrs old I have bought and sold 60 plus cars of all shapes and sizes but then 2 years ago after a dream purchase (997.1 Carrera cab) took me to Le Mans and back - we dropped anchor! My daughter started competing on her horse! 😮 All of a sudden I needed something that could tow a horse box, negotiate muddy car parks so owned a string of double cab pickups. But then a 💡 moment - if I buy a 2015 (pre OPF) RRS SVR we can tow the horse box to the competition on the Sat and I can put it in hooligan mode and go out for a blat with the lads on the Sun. Otherwise I am looking at owning and maintaining something like a Gen 1 R8 manual for Sun drives and a Ranger for Sat horse duties. Not many people will say this but the SVR saves me money 🤷♂️ one lot of road talk (although hideous), one service a year, one parking space it literally couldn’t be better suited! There are probably others out there in a similar position but we are that small group that can make sense of the Super SUV. I hope to be getting into one at the back end of this year and plan to take it to Le Mans with me next year 💪🏻💪🏻 Keep up the incredible podcasts, you are a good combo of characters and help me while away the miles every weekend 👌

“It’s a computer.” Tony said it, and that’s the reason all new-new cars will struggle on the used market. As someone who works on their own Ferrari, the only potential issues that scares me are the electronic ones, and that’s for a 430, which isn’t even 10% as complicated as these new cars, especially hybrids. In order for cars to become safe second hand purchases, repair-ability matters. Not reliability, REPAIR-ability. The enthusiasts buying these cars second hand understand they will come with maintenance needs and repairs, that’s not scary. Heck, some of us even like the projects! But if they’re projects no one can afford or easily perform (like hybrid or electronic repairs), then no, we will pass. An engine rebuild is less scary than chasing down hybrid issues. Old computers become bricks once they’re no longer supported. So turning these cars more and more into computers means it’ll be a brick later too. Even if that’s not entirely true, that’s how it will always be perceived. Because we all see cars from the 50s still running, but we don’t see people using the original Apple computer.

I tried carwow and got offered 39.000. Both of these offers were open to being lowered on viewing the car in person of course. I went to my local independent car dealer (with a similar size business to Tony, 20-50 cars on the lot and of similar price range). Things used to depreciate, and still should, cars used to be driven, now everyone thinks everything is a collectible and it's ridiculous and boring now. When I was in high school my girlfriend at the time, her mom had an F40 and she drove it everywhere, took it grocery shopping all the time, I am glad I got to experience cars like that when they were actually used. It was also nice when exotics were truly rare to see, it was special.

No i don´t think the 296 is a future collectors car. Like most modern cars really. Cause it is full off tech that will be outdated very soon. And when Ferrari stops making them, how long will you be able to get parts? Like the batterypack, the touchscreens, the software updates and things like that. Once the touchscreens stop working or Ferrari stops the software updates they will be useless. And this is not just Ferrari but most cars these days. They might be collectable in 20 years for those that only want it to sit in a nice garage and never be used. But not for people that wants to drive it.

The only problem I have had is a faulty transfer box which was replaced, free of all charges, after the three year guarantee expired because Porsche acknowledged that it was a weak point with the Macan. The worlds economies are suffering under the mountain of debt, which 'we' can not pay off. That realization seemingly hasn't sunk in yet, but when it does it will be exciting times to see what maintains it's value, the winners and looses. Will it be classic cars that suffer, fine art, house prices and real estate? The next 3 years are going to be interesting. The central banks created a problem they can't get out of, since we live in a debt based economy, they need to increase the debt to stay afloat which at the same time destroys the system through inflated prices. A classic 'doom loop'.

Thing is: it's all relative when it comes to collector car prices. The big boom came from Europe's car supply suddenly being wanted by hundreds of millions of people around new parts of the world which could start buying our cars. This includes the US, as even though they've always bought some European cars, they also had a boom of buying cars from Europe.

Collectable cars: they need to be a/ good cars, b/ low numbers - not GT3 low numbers (cos' there are loads of GT3s), but restricted "n x 100 built", c/ with a market of the right age customers. Without this, the cars will be just normal depreciating assets and as build numbers are no so high, that's pretty much all cars. The F1 & Carerra GT are great example, fits the bill for a, b and c above. Just like a 250GT0. I own a GT3, it's falling in value and will contionue to do so. Only very very special stuff is collectable as in investment.
