Well that’s usually how games work, most if not all of a scene is loaded into memory with less necessary things coming from storage. That’s why many games have long loading screens, especially open world games. Games would be incredibly slow if you had to continuously load and unload assets from your drive, definitely not real time, since they are millions of times slower than your memory

I even got Doom running on JPEG Edit: Quick explanation how I did it. In JPEG files, there's a specific sequence of bytes that marks the start of the image, and one that marks the end, and browsers accept pretty much everything as valid HTML. I just put some JavaScript at the end that loads Doom and removes everything else

The best alternative to Windows for gaming: Pop OS. It’s a Linux distribution, Steam has this feature called Steam Play where it makes it so most Windows games run on Linux. Try it out! The only change I made was installing this extension called “dash to panel” which adds a more windows-like taskbar at the bottom. “Dash to dock” is good too if you’re looking for a more Mac like experience

Steam Proton basically lives or dies on your graphic card's Vulkan support (at least when it comes to newer games), so if you're using some old chonker do some research first, and if you're using AMD make sure to get the Pro drivers as the default don't come with Vulkan.

The new Edge is actually a really good browser though. It's based on Chromium, so it supports all your Chrome extensions and bits. But it's also a much lighter browser, using only about a third as much RAM as Chrome does for the same amount of tabs. When I used Chrome I found myself force stopping the browser all the time, but I've never had to do the same for the new Edge. It really is an impressive browser that's only underappreciated due to the reputation associated with the name.

Linux STILL can't play a ton of games and installing is stupid why the fuck do I have to use terminal? the .exe is simple to use but nope you gotta type random gibberish into terminal to download and install. No thanks as shitty as windows is its way more user friendly. This is coming from someone who builds their own PC's Linux is good for laptops and that's it for gaming Windows is far, far superior in every way. The worst part is the elitism surrounding Linux like fuck off with that shit.
