"Poseidon's not that scary." While most modern media downplays it, Poseidon is possibly the most fears being in the pantheon. Other gods only punish those who anger them. Poseidon would punish them, AND everyone they loved, or even lived in the same town with earthquakes and storms. And if anyone had the audacity to escape, they have it at least twice as bad. Odysseus is in REALLY deep shit.
@AndyG947 сағат бұрын
If I remember correctly from OSP video of Hades and Persephone, there is a theory that Poseidon was originally a God of Earthquakes and had a deep connection to the underworld. Making him one of the scariest beings in ancient (Mycynean) Greece since he could kill you and keep torturing you in the underworld

He may be eury's friend (and brother in law _cough_ ), but he's also his captain and king. Amazing reaction and analysis as always, the way you engage with media is honestly so inspiring :>>

15:36 "[Poseidon]'s not that scary!" Modern media tends to downplay the fact that Poseidon is the scariest thing in Greek mythology, because anything else can be avoided. Most gods only go after those who anger them specifically, monsters stay in their lairs roam a very small area, or ignore mortals in favor of the gods, etc. Poseidon is the exception. He has a tendency to take out his anger towards one person by killing the entire population of the island said person is on with earthquakes and giant storms, and anyone who escapes this automatically makes the list of people he's angry at for having the "audacity" to make his revenge incomplete. He's also VERY quick to anger. He's called "The Earthshaker" for a reason.

Thank you for pointing out that Eurylochus *really* should have pulled Odysseus aside to talk about his concerns in private, instead of scaring the crew! I've seen so many reactions where they just criticize Odysseus, thinking that he just wanted unquestioning loyalty. If a man makes his brother-in-law his second-in-command, he's going to be open to advice...if brought up *correctly.* And also, Poseidon is right, too. Odysseus *should have* killed Polythemus. He's blind, and they killed and took his sheep. How is he supposed to support himself? He's going to have to depend on the mercy of his neighbors. His life just became *so much harder* that naturally he's going to want revenge, and he can now call upon his father with the name of the person who did this to him.

I truly think Polites _had_ to die for EPIC to progress as it does. "Everything's changed since Polites" refers to the Ocean Saga as a whole, not just the events of "Keep Your Friends Close" We see how disagreements _used_ to go down between Odysseus, Eurylochus & Polites back in "Full Speed Ahead" Fair to say it was _not_ as confrontational as we see in "Luck Runs Out" Not only has _Odysseus_ changed significantly, in a way that (perhaps) alarms the crew, but the atmosphere among the crew as a whole as too

19:40 I interpreted it as Poseidon saying “ruthlessness is mercy upon *ourself”*. As in, if he had killed the cyclops he wouldn’t have these consequences later, so he would have sparing himself his own fate.
@aspen1889Күн бұрын
My person reading of Ruthlessness is that Poseidon isn't actually mad because Odysseus blinded his son or because "heroes should kill" though I'm sure he did care for his kid. He's mad because by not killing him and by telling his son his name, hes invited vengeance. Vengeance and pettiness thrives in all of Greek mythology and they're rules the Gods have to live by if they don't wanna be forgotten. Athenas entire drive is to be known in this musical, and PoseidonHAS to bring it back on Odysseus because otherwise the world will forget he is a God above men. If Odysseus had killed the cyclops, he wouldn't have been able to request vengeance through Poseidon. If he hadn't shouted his name in pride, the Cyclops wouldn't know who to request vengeance on. Ruthlessness would have been mercy upon himself, because if the one you've wronged is dead they can't come back to bite you. He's mad that Odysseus considered himself above the rules even the Gods abide by, and this is how he teaches him to follow them.

Glad you enjoyed this saga ^^ Steven Rodriguez, the voice of Poseidon, is a really strong vocalist, id recommend checking out some of his solo work. It's interesting what you said about wanting a eulogy for Polites. Am interested to see how you feel about his motif and how it/his presence in Odysseus' memory changes as the show goes on. Also, the Winions are absolutely canon. There are some canon animatics that Jorge commissioned for the live premieres, and sure enough, they got Winions in em. I think the animator Mircsy was the one to inspire it with their lotus eater designs. Also, i saw another comment reference Poseidon turning into a horse. That's a reference to Aniflamma's Ruthlessness animatic, their depiction of Poseidon is very fluid and shapeshifter-y. Not strictly canon, but they have done other canon work for the livestreams. Hope you continue to enjoy the show ^^
@breginuКүн бұрын
the lines "you reveal your name, then you let him live" and "you could have avoided all this had you just killed my son" are there to make it clear how poseidon knows all this: the cyclops called him up as soon as odysseus left like 'daddy that guy was mean to me please kill him also he told me his name and address'. if odysseus had killed the cyclops poseidon might never have known who did it.

Hi! Just wanna say that I am really enjoying your Epic reactions! Love how you notice the callbacks like "I am your darkest moment" and "remember me" Some other cool detail is in the Instruments this Saga. One of the Instrument of poseidon are trumpets and in the storm we hear a lot of trumpets implying that it was Poseidon who send the storm! About Athena, I read it as while partly about being a warrior it was also to not leave any loose ends. "He is still a threat until he's dead" but then Ody not only leaves him alive but basically gives his social Security number. He told his Name and where he was From. And in the end Polyphemus(the cyclops) told his father how this Odysseus of Ithica hurt him and now here we are. Also Rip Polites, everything changed since he died. Also we got a Eurylochus( how do you spell his name?) song in Luck Runs out! He doenst have an Instrument per say but he is the voice of the crew and has them often in the Background. Love how you notice the nuances in the song I think the plan to only listen(no animatics) is a good plan for first time listening. That way the focus stays on the music! Though I can still really recommend watching some animatics Afterwards either for a video or in your own time! So yea I am really looking Forward to the next Epic Reaction!

Welcome to the ride that are the callbacks! it really hits you every time, from the small ones ("full speed ahead") to the big ones ("darkest moment", "remember me", but also "when does a ripple become a tidal wave?") & it doesn't only happen lyrically, but also with little melodies. (As I said in my comment for the Cyclops saga, I'm a big fan of the crew chorus, so "Luck Runs Out" is unpredictably, one of my favorite songs)

The core line of the Ruthlessness is “Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves.” The Gods of Ancient Greece aren’t omnipotent. If Odyssey killed his son, he wouldn’t have found out who killed the cyclops. And even if he did find out Odyssey killed him, he probably wouldn’t do anything since he died. However since Odyssey only blinded him, the cyclops complained to Poseidon. To wrap it all together leaving the cyclops alive is what caused his crew to die. If he killed the cyclops it would have been a mercy on Odyssey because he most likely could’ve made it home with the over 500 crew members. And he doesn’t have to deal with weight of their deaths on his conscience.

Poseidon wouldn't have known who killed him. And technically with Cyclops, having only one eye, he left his son with a very severe disability. And it's not like nowadays where we can have seen eye dogs. Yes, the cyclops had every right to be angry when his home was broken into and his favorite sheep was killed.But yeah, odysseus didn't know that the cave actually belonged to anyone. Both are in the wrong and both are a certain level of right.

Great reaction. Also definitely look up the animatics for Ruthlessness, especially the ones by Neal Illustrator, Anniflama, and Gigi. (The first one for wet daddy vibes)

Ruthlessness was the song that fully roped me into this fandom (specifically AnniFlamma's animatic, so good, much props to them). I'd heard sound clips on tiktok without really knowing but then the "I'vvvvvve been so graaaacious!" So flipping good!!!!! Again, super excited to see you reacting and enjoying! :) Full speed ahead!

Please please please, I will curate the best of the best animatic list for You, but I beg of You react to the animatics fo the songs after You are finished with the pure music! It adds sooooo much~ and animtors that spawned via epic are so good!

Euryloches' instrument is the Crew's backup vocals. He tends to be speaking for and with the crew--for good, or for ill. The boy is basically just operated by Peer Pressure.

Hey Bill! idk if you do requests for trying to stan, but I've been watching the series for a while now and would love if you listened to Slipknot or Korn. I know its not your usual style of music, but that is exactly why i think it would be a really nice, lol.
