Trying Toad Bakery; Peckham, London

After trying Pophams Bakery the other week, Anna and I had our eyes on Toad Bakery in Peckham/Camberwell next.
Upon arriving at 1 PM on a cloudy Tuesday, we we’d promptly informed that they were out of iced coffees and had a limited supply of pastries. Undeterred we forged on, ordering one of everything they had left in their case. Our order was as follows,
a spicy tofu BLT
a plum and marzipan sun bun
a bresaola and manchego pastry
The tofu BLT was one of my favorite sandwiches I’ve had so far this year. Spicy and complex, the marinated raw tofu truly stood out and didn’t feel like a vegetarian cop out of the real thing.
The bresaola pastry was a 10/10 patisserie wise. The pastry was light and buttery with flakes galore. Wish there could have been an option for it to be warmed (perhaps there was, it wasn’t offered so I didn’t ask). The manchego worked great, wished there was more.
The sun bun was my personal favorite on reflection. A wonderfully fluffy brioche bun filled with a thin layer of marzipan, crème patisserie and glazed plums. Not too sweet, wonderfully soft and a very very nice sweet treat.
Points off because transport links are actually next to nothing and the outdoor seating area could be a bit more welcoming I feel. Also was very sad about the absence of iced coffee at what is essentially a bakery and cafe.
Would undoubtedly recommend but try to show up a bit earlier if you can.
