Trying Trader Joes Vegan Kimbap and Ravioli and other new foods I tried in August 2023

Y’all are so lucky!! I’ve been a vegan for 40 years. The vast majority of that time it was a salad and baked potato at restaurants and tofu and maybe boca burgers for prepared food. Now there are enough NEW products for a :15 video every month!!! (And we’re all lucky we have these videos to try them all first! Thanks!!)

Hii! The reason why they don’t want you to thaw the sushi in the fridge overnight is to prevent botulism. When frozen vacuum-sealed food is slowly brought down to temp it can encourage the C. botulinum bacteria to grow. I buy that sushi sometimes and follow the microwave thaw instructions.

It doesn't seem like that would apply to plant based items. I can see it with raw fish though.

I am so glad you tried so many fun things in August! Frozen sushi is definitely not a thing where I live and the concept seems a little wild :D Tofu town products though: wow, they seem awesome. I got the gyro meat at Ocean State Job Lot in Rhode Island. I believe you can get them from discount shops like perhaps grocery outlet, TJ Maxx, places like that. 😊

You need to try Meati products at Whole Foods!!! Closest vegan steak alternative I’ve tried. It’s so so so good. Insane macros: 120 calories and 17 grams of protein!

Just a random question regarding blobs, cause they seem fun: are they also one of those stick-to-your-teeth vegan gummies or is the texture better? SO MANY brands use starches and pectins to make vegan gummies and it unfortunately makes them kind of sticky :D

My tj will be out of Kimpab until November. Clean out the first day by one customer, so unfair! I defrost the crab cakes ( gardein/ good catch) then pan fry, so much better than air fry.

I tried that sushi roll recently too, microwaving like they suggest helps to bring the rice back to life. Releases the moisture that happens from freezing and they cool down super quick so it's not like eating a warm roll. It is good, but like you said the price isn't great unless you don't have access to the same kind of plant sushi from restaurants.
