A few of statements here require correction: 1. CLEAR Plus does not bypass security line, CLEAR Plus is an expedited service that checks identity using biometrics at the kiosk without the need to take out ID documents (i.e. driver licenses, passport etc). You don't and cannot walk past the security line. 2. CLEAR Plus does not replace or supersede TSA PreCheck, they complement each other in the ID checking and security line. 3. As of today, CLEAR Plus membership fee is $199 per year, no longer at $189. 4. Both the AMEX Delta Skymiles Gold card and Chase United Explorer card DON'T cover a single penny as credit towards CLEAR Plus membership fee. Being a cardholder of either card reduces the fee to $159 instead of the full $199, but if you pay for the membership using either of these two cards, you will not be credited since this isn't a benefit of either cards. 5. The AMEX Hilton Honors Aspire card (not mentioned in video) covers the full CLEAR plus membership fee, just like the AMEX Platinum and Business Platinum cards.

At the airports where I frequently fly (JFK, LGA, LAX, SFO, DCA) Clear does allow you to bypass the entire line before the point where the officer checks your ID (which often allows bypassing a long line). After you pass that point, you go through the same process with everyone else of putting your carry on bags in the machine, and going through the scanner or metal detector, etc. Usually there is a Clear station for either TSA Pre or Regular. If the regular line is very short, it is possible that the Clear might not save any time. Clear (in my experience) is basically just paying money to often have a much shorter line.

@@morrispearl9981 You are right regarding CLEAR lets you bypass the ID check line and go straight to security check. In fact that is the main purpose of having CLEAR. The information given in the video said "bypass security line" which is false and misinformation, no one can bypass security check.

"Bypass security line" is definitely misleading. CLEAR is more of a front-of-the-line privilege, although that's now more accurately CLEAR + TSA Pre, with CLEAR alone being second-in-line if funneled through the same checkpoint.

Interview on arrival can be challenging if you have a US-based connection on your return, because you go through customs there and not your home airport. It was a bit of a squeeze for me during a connection in IAD, but was a complete failure for my daughter when she came back through YYZ (Toronto CBP preclearance) - we almost missed our flight and have nothing to show for it. DO NOT try this if connecting in Toronto unless you have a very long layover of probably more than 4 hours.

Well as for me was conditionally approved and this was for a renewal went to Australia and Hawaii is the first port of entry and last leg was to go to SFO where I lived when I arrived hawaii I told the officer in the global entry that I'm up for renewal which she confirmed on her computer and hence interview upon arrival officer asked me to wait and after 5 mins escorted me to customs when I declared I had bought some designer shoes in Australia but instead of getting me my interview they were hell bent on getting me taxed for the designer shoes I bought worth $5000 and even ridiculing me for bringing 2 big luggages for a 10 day cruise which incidentally has my wedding attire they opened the bags and just found the shoes which I did declare. Almost lost my connection to SFO and taxed me 60$ for the 5000$ shoes when I asked if they are done and should we proceed for the interview global entry they said you sure you wanna go it will take us long and you'll surely miss your flight. I did not argue anymore but I felt that it just missed it's purpose on me. They made me wait if I had known all along that they need to tax me and not interview me they should have told me ahead and i would gladly pay but no they took their own sweet time assigning some othe people and computing even when I told them I had a 1 hour only connection. PEOPLE there in Hawaii are just plain rude.

Also, Global Entry interviews can now be automatically given when you return from your next international trip. They just pull you aside on re-entry and make you answer the 2 or 3 questions and that's it. No need to schedule your interview outside of a normal international trip you may already have planned. Basically it just gets done the next time you return home.

I can concur that there have been several times where general screening showed quicker than either TSA Precheck or Clear. It's hit or miss for me in ATL for a timesaver, but in most of my destination airports it's been very beneficial when flying back home. Global Entry has been completely worth it for ATL immigration.

Yo, Former TSA here. Just get pre check, everything else does not help you get through faster. It is literally cheaper to get a credit card like United's Premiere to get into premiere lines. What is even faster? Look for open lanes, the amount of passengers (me too before workin) do not look or see that we usually have completely empty lines, do not follow the flock. If you see a lane with those automated machines with the mega bins, those usually are only good if there aren't many people. Go to traditional lanes with the manual rollers and small bins during rushes.

I disagree, even if the lines are the exact same with pre-check versus regular the fact that you don’t have to take anything out is still more convenient even if the time in Line is the exact same. Have used pre-check now 40 times give or take a few and only two times have the lines been one time it was longer my one friend was finished with his shoes and putting his coat back on when I was getting out and the other time we were getting out around the same time otherwise it’s always been at least a little bit quicker if not far quickerbut just this simple convenience and I have to take off the shoes take the laptop out, etc. I feel like it is worth it, especially if you already have the price covered with your bank and or credit card

If you don't plan to go international, Global Entry may not be worth it.... it really depends on your location and ability to get to an interview location. I was faced with several choices and ultimately took a day off, flew to Boston for my interview (you can pay an app to track openings at preferred locations), flew to Charlotte and back home. It made for a long day, but it would have been probably 5 hours driving, plus the interview, plus gas parking and meals etc... Sure I paid for the flights.... but not driving to/in/thru Philly, Baltimore, DC or PIttsburgh was 100% worth that. Ultimately, I wound up not going on the vacation that was initially planned for using Global Entry, but am looking at new ones. At least that's all a one and done thing and renewal can be 100% remote.

However, having a KTN (known traveler number) that is assigned to everyone who is TSA Precheck approved does not always prevent the issuance of the dreaded SSSS's on a domestic boarding pass. If you've never experienced having SSSS on your boarding pass, it is nothing to wish for. In order to prevent future SSSS's on boarding passes, one must apply to TSA for a "Redress" number. Maybe you haven't traveled internationally so you don't care. Ok, but what if you do? It's a few dollars more and once you're approved the renewal is easy. Check your credit card to see if they pay for it. By far the easiest way to do it. I'd never go to the airport for the meeting.

If you get approved for this process anywhere other than an international airport you do not have Global Entry. Global Entry costs barely more than TSA Pre-check. Just get Global Entry. It includes TSA Pre-check.

My experience with TSA pre check the first time was I left belt on and shoes on. First trip thru machine set off the buzzer. They made me remove belt and shoes. Thru machine again and set it off. They then moved me to a 360 degree machine and I passed. So my tsa pre check should be avoided if you have any metal body parts. Which I do have in my wrists. Only benefit is shorter lines.

If you get a Nexus card which has TSA precheck, expedited immigration global entry, and expedited entry into Canada is only $50 dollars. You have an interview with U.S. customs and Canadian customs officers who are collocated on the U.S. side at the Nexus office near a land border port of entry near Canada. I got my Nexus card when they were at Boeing field in Seattle, stupidly when my card was about to expire I changed it to Global entry without any interview and paid $100 dollars and they just sent the card in the mail. I recently reapplied for the Nexus card and paid another $50 dollars, had to schedule another interview but this time up in Blaine Washington near the border. I’m staying with Nexus from now on and just paying $50 dollars renewals, the card literally does the same thing with a little more such as getting through Canada through the Nexus lane at the land border and through the U.S Nexus lane. You also get through the line faster if you fly into Canada with Nexus if you’re a Canadian or U.S. citizen. No more interviews once you keep it and renew Nexus.

It's been a couple of years so I don't remember exactly the details... But I applied for Global Entry when I was physically in Thailand (I have US Citizenship). One of the options it gave me was to be interviewed upon arrival, so I was able to be interviewed right at the immigration window as I arrived MSP, which was about a week after my application. It was pretty simple actually.

I went with the global entry option since pre-check was included. I won't be using GE until next year, but I've used PC for multiple years and it is SOOOOOO worth it!! I can get through security most times in under 5 minutes, and that includes standing in line. I'm looking forward to using GE next year after our trip to Europe, paid for by miles and points that I've been building since 2019!

I just got my global entry KTN. It took me three months to schedule my interview at Boston Logan international. I was planning on going through the interview on return from my trip abroad in September but an injury while I was away sidelined my ability to do this. I needed a wheelchair at the plane's door and airport staff got me through immigration fairly quickly so I lost that opportunity. It took me from August when I first applied to December to get my appointment. Once the appointment was over, I got my card in a matter of a week. Haven't had a chance to use it yet so hopefully it'll all go as planned for future travel.

You can avoid the long interview schedules by conducting your interview upon entering (interview upon arrival) the USA. Call the airport or check online to see if the international airport you’re entering offers the service. Most do offer it and it’s simple.

@ you just go through the typical line, so yes, that first time entering the USA wouldn’t be through global entry. You ask the customs officer to take the interview. Once the interview is completed, you will be notified of your approval for global entry. For example, my wife was conditionally approved for global entry, with an interview date of April 2025. We just returned from a foreign trip, and when entering the USA she took the interview and has since been approved for global entry.

I fly out of BWI back home to TPA about 30 times per year. I have all 3 and over the course of the last year, I would estimate the regular TSA Pre Check line was less than half as long as the CLEAR / TSA line. Had the same experience on two trips out of LAS this past year as well. Clear is quickly becoming not worth the cost.

One other consideration if you don't live in a major city. I live in Flagstaff, AZ. We have several places in Flagstaff where you can get the TSA PreCheck interview but for our Global Entry interview my wife and I had to drive to Phoenix Sky Harbor airport (2 hr 14 min, 147 miles), pay for parking and pay for the gas. So we made a day of it. Also since we are both healthcare providers and wash our hands frequently, the electronic fingerprint machine could not record our fingerprints so we cannot use the automatic check in for Global Entry and we are stuck with the lines although the interview with the border agent is streamlined.

There's another thing called NEXUS which is good for people who live near the US/Canadian border thas it is expedited immigration going BOTH ways. So it's like Global Entry crossing from US to Canada AND from Canada to US, but does NOT include expedited entry from other countries. So if you're a person who goes into and out of Canada a lot AND you travel to other countries you should get BOTH Global Entry and NEXUS. and yes, NEXUS requires an appointment interview in Canada.

Yes, I made the mistake of getting TSA Pre-Check... for an international flight. During my interview, the option of Global Entry was explained to me -- but that it can take up to a YEAR to get approved. I'm leaving on my trip to SE Asia in less than 2 weeks -- so this isn't an option. But since I plan to make the same trip in subsequent years, maybe it's something I can explore upon my return. Not sure what -- if anything -- I accomplished by getting TSA Pre-Check. But, just in case, I DID submit my KTN to my air carrier -- Korean Airlines.

I recently went through TSA pre-check clear at DIA. And myself and several other passengers had our bags searched just to confirm that we complied with the rule. First time I ever had that happen, so they must be changing the rules at TSA. I’m left wondering whether pre-check or clear is even worth the price. It seems to me that TSA is changing the rules on an ongoing basis.

The whole idea and supposedly benefits of PSA pre-check is to expedite your passage through the security checkpoints at the airports. But I find that, this is becoming less and less so as more and more people are getting PSA pre-check. For instance, in my two most recent travels through JFK, the regular lines were shorter that the PSA pre-checked lines, causing me to wonder if PSA pre-check was worth getting. And with the increase of more people buying in Pre-check, I cannot envision how Pre-check can continue serve its intended purpose. So far, however, I have not had that problem when using the Global Entry on my return.

Last time I went through TSA PreCheck at Bradley International in CT (small-ish), the Clear line just let you cut in front of whomever was waiting in the Pre-Check line to get their ID scanned. And that was maybe 4 or 5 people. Still went through security just like Pre-Check. Maybe it is worth it at a big airport, but not at BDL.
