TSA (thermal spray aluminium) to protect against CUI (Corrosion Under Insulattion)

Great video showing the TSA process. I find the process very slow when compared to other coatings on the market for CUI prevention, however, I agree that it gives protection for a good period of time.

TSA is very very tough and will last for a long long time if the substrate is prepared correctly. I get 1900 psi to 3000 psi on my adhesion pull test. With a lot of the glue failure before the TSA breaks off at pull area. We have to do a test plate and two bend plates for every batch of spool piping. We do use arc to apply it. I like the flame spray. It looks quicker. We have to get a 3-5 mil anchor profile. We are applying 10-20 mils.

Do you have any recommendation for how to remove the TSA. We are trying to blast the TSA off of some pipe with a sandblaster and have tried a few different kind of blasting media without much luck.

@@5102spe The only thing we do is blast it off using #4 to #2 sand. It will take awhile. When it bites to the substrate it’s hard to come off. That’s the only recommendation I can say bud. Idk. It’s really tough to remove.

At 1:06 what is the purpose of this test?

It is to measure the depth of the blast profile. The Testex tape is pressed into the blasted surface then measured for thickness to determine how deep the blast profile is from peak to trough.

It's to make sure ur profile is deep enough impact for ur spray application to bond to along side of using what is called an alcomiter for measuring the mills of metal you have applied to the surface...
