I’m a SEL CFII that has been out of teaching for a while. I recently got my MEL and am currently working on my MEI. I was looking for something to help me get back up to speed on all the instructor endorsements and logbook entries. I came across your channel and it is phenomenal!!! Your content is really well done and has helped me tremendously!! Thank you!!

Todd I was a CFI from 2015 to 17 and I'm working to get it reinstated now. These CFI and endorsement specific videos with the acronyms and FAR explanations are the best and most comprehensive tools I've used. I just loop the video over and over until I have every acronym down with explanations and the FAR that proves it PLEASE keep making more videos that do more scenarios about ALL the requirements AND endorsement s needed for someone wanting to add a category and also complex or off the wall endorsements/student scenarios!! Thanks!!

Once again you are killing it Todd. Question, Have you ever considered conduct a seminar for the Wings Program? I would love other more people to watch you and receive wings credits. You are the best.

I could do that! I am going to start some KZbin live broadcasts this month, and I think I will add that one to the list. Thanks for being a loyal subscriber!!

Todd- love your videos. As a CFI involved in training new CFIs, I take lots of notes in my spiral bound FIH and PTS (great tip!). Nit pick question - Number 4 says "Required endorsement of a pilot logbook for the satisfactory completion of the required FAA flight review." Isn't that then about the *endorsement* rather than how to conduct a Flight Review. Or, isn't the DPE straying off the PTS if that becomes the question? (No doubt a new CFI needs to know how to do a FR.)
@ToddShellnuttCPC9 ай бұрын
The intent is for the CFI to understand how to get to the endorsement. You can't give the endorsement without actually conducting the flight review. However, the PTS states that the DPE shall test to the greatest extent possible. That means everything is fair game.

Quick question Todd: I am slightly confused about the necessity of endorsement A72. I understand that this is required in order to fulfil SOLO requirements, however is this endorsement also required for someone who will be conducting their checkride for an added rating? I ask because the Pilot who is conducting the checkride has to be the PIC on that day (not the DPE), therefore, am I correct to think that A 72 is ALWAYS required for an added rating when taking a checkride? Thank you for your invaluable help and stunning videos - I watched them all!!! :)
@ToddShellnuttCPC Жыл бұрын
2 part reply. 1 - See this letter of interpretation from the FAA regarding acting and logging PIC on checkrides: www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/agc/practice_areas/regulations/interpretations/Data/interps/2009/Murphy_2009_Legal_Interpretation.pdf 2 - The A72 is only required for solo. Since the checkride is not that, it is not needed. See the above LOI.

Todd - thanks a lot for this video. It was very helpful. I have a question on the scenario regarding the helicopter pilot who wants to get ASEL private certificate. Since it's an add on, they would not need to take a knowledge test and would only need the A1, A72, & A74 endorsements? Please correct me if I am wrong, but they would not need the BCN to solo because they are not a student pilot; just the A72 endorsement to solo. Would the instructor need to go back and hit the knowledge areas that were not covered in the rotorcraft training to give the A74 endorsement? I'm a little confused so I appreciate the help!

Is the Review of deficiencies identified on airman knowledge test endorsement needs to by sing off by the same instructor that gave the Prerequisites endorsement and the proficiency one
@ToddShellnuttCPCАй бұрын
There is no requirement that it be the same instructor. The regulations only state that it must be an "authorized instructor."

I’ve watched all your regulation videos and love it. I learned a lot. I understand the Tim loves bacon. But what is the Tim loves bacon plus 1,2,3,1,2,32,33?
@patrickkotyuk2053 жыл бұрын
1,2,3 61.93 1,2 3 (solo XC endorsements) 1,2,32,33 are the A. Numbers listed on AC 61-65H (needed for the practical test)

not sure if I undurstood you at 16:55: the instructor need not be rated to act as PIC for a flight review? but then you said as long as its an airplane with no type rating? don't you need to be rated appropriately any time you are singing "instruction given"? if you could please clarify that, much appriciated, thanks!
@ToddShellnuttCPC4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the long time for your reply - what I said at that part was acting PIC in regards to the medical and additional endorsements. Meaning, you would only need to meet the requirements of 61.195(b) to give instruction if you are not acting as the PIC. So, any instance in which you are required to act at the PIC, you would have to meet ALL of the requirements to do so. However, you can give a flight review to a pilot of a King Air 90 as long as they can act as PIC for the duration of the flight.

Wonderful and informative Tod! I had a question ... What is the difference between 61.31.d.2 where we give the Endorsement of A72 from Advisory Circular 61.65, for Sending a student solo on an aircraft for which they are not rated v.s The PIC training needed as per 61.129.b.4. where eg- Due to insurance purposes the Commercial Student with ASEL logs PIC time with the instructor on board demonstrating PIC capabilities on a Multi-engine.
@toddshellnutt5404 жыл бұрын
The difference is that one authorizes solo and the other one has an instructor in the airplane. So you would not give the 61.31.d.2 endorsement if there's gonna be another person in the airplane. That endorsement would only be used if the pilot would be solo in an aircraft that they were unrated to fly. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delay in responding - the privileges only apply to the pilot certificate you are exercising. For instance, I hold an ATP Single and Multiengine pilot certificate, but when I am flying my own plane for pleasure, I am only exercising Private Pilot privileges. Does this help?

Hi Todd, I was wondering if you could answer my question? Is the A.8 endorsement a one time authorization OR does it allow for repeated flights? For example if I want to allow my students to make repeated solo cross country flights 20NM away do I have to provide A.11 or is A.8 sufficient? Thank you for the video!

1) if a commercial MEL pilot wants to get a SEL, what does that person need to solo a SEL airplane during its training?
@ToddShellnuttCPC3 жыл бұрын
If that person only holds a MEL and no SEL privileges, then they would only need the 61.31(d)(2) endorsement to solo the SEL airplane.

QQ: If time has lapsed for the pilot requiring a BFR, meaning over 24 calendar months since last checkride or BFR, can a CFI not acting as PIC (eg no medical, not type rated etc) conduct the flight review? I would've thought the answer was 'no' but please correct me if I'm wrong.
@ToddShellnuttCPC3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. Someone has to act as PIC on the flight, and in this scenario, neither can.

a Tricky question about Examiner , could be what are the minimum hours if you have PPL H FAA and you want add CPL A FAA , with adding a Class , the hours before PIC A it is not declared, when he is proficient ok, but if he ask the exactly minimum hours before SOLO PIC A ? should I assume minimum 1 hour ? i think not, so what is the exactly answer please?
@ToddShellnuttCPC2 жыл бұрын
There are no listed hours in the regulations that dictate how many hours a pilot must have before they conducte solo operations. It only states that the CFI must find them proficient. Hope this answers your questions.

If I do not have a high performance endorsement, could I not give instruction or an endorsement to a student seeking a high performance endorsement because no one would be PIC during the training flights?

Cole Frahm correct. If you don’t have it, you can’t give it.
