Dummy does get bulky buddy value. You just have to have it at the end of a chain of two other units. You can see at 13:05 the buddy gets 6 bars of health when Keane puts it next to Leona, without reducing leona health, but then loses it when he puts swain next to dummy

For conq to get stacks, a conq unit has to deal some portion of the damage, even if its just 1 hit. I think it's worth it to place the Dummy in the back just to have an additional ranged conq (unless Im completely mistaken and the dummy doesnt attack)
