this is my missis account but i jyst gotta say gunsmoke is actually one of the best audio dramas out there...and i have listened to a lot of audio dramas but i always come back to gunsmoke, its so well done and did you know it was and might still be one of if not the longest running audio drama in american history, william conrad is so good in this, perfect for playing marshall dillon eith his gruff voice

This was another top-notch episode of "Gunsmoke" with an excellent plot, sound effects, and voice actors. This was my favorite western for the decade it was on radio.

Radio Gunsmoke rules. One of my favorite radio programs. Hard to believe it was still going when the television Gunsmoke started. They interviewed but did not take any of the radio cast for the television show. Glad they did not. We never would have had Floyd the Barber or Mayor Stoner in Mayberry if they were in Gunsmoke.

And short plump William Conrad would never have cut the figure 6'6" and lean James Arness did on TV! But both radio and TV Gunsmoke made up two amazing series in very long runs due to the excellent writing, character development, and acting.

@@Tsnore You do know the story behind William Conrad's interview for Television Gunsmoke. They sat in directors chairs and were reading lines and when they went to get up to leave the interview Conrad's chair stuck to his butt when he stood up. They had to pull the chair off his butt while he was standing up. He was a little plump but not near as plump as he was once he got to television in the 70's with Cannon and Jake and the Fatman. Conrad is the reason I love radio Gunsmoke and Arness is the reason I love television Gunsmoke. Glad the two are separate, the way it is, it works perfectly.

Howard Mcnear aka Floyd did appear on tv gunsmoke a few times I believe as a store keeper
@spliceoncharlie3 жыл бұрын
@@garryedens3347 He appeared in a few places but we needed everyone in Mayberry. Would never work in Dodge since you cannot have double characters. We need the magic of the back 40 lot.

did Matt Dillon, or Chester Proud Foot, ever die in the 9 years on radio or the 20 years on television?
@Tsnore4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe so, but James Arness and Parley Baer both died at 88, Dennis Weaver at 81, and Bill Conrad at 73.
