I bought a 2gal size Jubilaion last yr from Southern Living and it bloomed heavily in the first flush..and then moderately a couple of times before the cold weather late fall...Im in 7b as well in kind of a micro climate in Queens NY off LI sound and as far as growth..it did almost triple in size from the time i bought it in that one season..i did baby it and fed it Proven Winners soluable ferts each week and got amazing growth..its now going into its second season and its from top of the pot its about 30in. tall and approx 4ft wide...so i do recommend this plant..one thing that you mentioned is true that the blooms dont last on the plant as long as (for instance) the Steady as She Grows gardenia from Proven Winners but these flowers are larger and more double.......I just purchased 2 more 2gal. plants from Amazon at a good price and quick shipping ..and potted em up under my bedroom window in full southern exposure..so i should get some amazing scent trails wafting in in the upcoming warm weather......they are quite cold tolerant however i did frost "bag" my first one for a few weeks in late Jan through Feb and beginning of March..it did very well ..i did it just in case as it was my first Jubilation...i recently uncovered it and gave it a drink of half stregnth ferts...Tip..PW has a great soluable fett product and it contains a mineral to keep the leaves from turning yellow..alot of ferts do not have that benefit..I hope you guys have as much luck w/urs as I have wih mine.......Bob

Hi Bob! Thank you for taking the time to write this! I’m glad you like this plant also and it has been doing well! Thank you for recommending the “Steady as She…”plant and the fertilizer! I’m very lean on fertilizing because I have clay soil😊 The ones in part shade are greener looking, so it may be a better for it instead of full sun in hot hot climate here.

Thank you for your note. I am doing a container garden so i do have control of the soil parameters..I use Espoma organic potting mix and also to start off new annuals etc i use Bio Tone from the same company..its equipped w/microbioms to encourage root growth and a mild fertilizer..but its a starter item..so with that in mind i have had great luck planting plants good for 7b and acually used some perennials to push the boundaries to an upward zone...like the gardenias for instance...Since i do container gardening i have the option of the control and i also use frost cloth(bags) to protect tender ones. Im glad you enjoyed my recommendations and i do love gardening albeit in containers. Thank you again for your content...Bob

@@bobperricone2216 you’re welcome! I love using Espoma products too! Sounds like you’re a great gardener! And I love container gardening too, not as good as you, of course! If I didn’t dream too big about gardening when I started, and knowing what I know now, I think I would be happy doing container gardening and just have a few garden beds to manage.

I recently bought 2 of your gardenias & they are very healthy but they are dropping buds. What should I do? Thank you.
@BeyondTheGrays9 ай бұрын
Hi! I am so sorry to hear that! What hardy growing zone are you in? It could be due to a number of factors. Below is info I got from Southern Living Plant Collection Company, along with the link to the article. I hope this helps! Good luck with your plants! “At times an apparently healthy gardenia will drop all or most of the developing flower buds just before they open. Such “bud drop” can result from several environmental and cultural factors. Water is often to blame, whether in the form of low humidity, overwatering or underwatering.” Link: southernlivingplants.com/planting-care/how-to-maximize-gardenia-blooms/#:~:text=At%20times%20an%20apparently%20healthy,low%20humidity%2C%20overwatering%20or%20underwatering.

The blooms don’t last as long in full sun especially hot afternoon sun verses morning sun and partial shade in afternoon. That’s what I have found in my research.

That’s good to know, thank you! I do have some in part shade that I will be paying close attention to.

I just planted 3 in my garden :) how long has that one been there planted?
@BeyondTheGrays Жыл бұрын
Oh very nice! You will love them! Did you plant them in a circle, as a hedge, or in different parts of the garden? I planted mine in 2021 as little plants, so 2 years. Hope you will love them for many years to come!

My blooms are starting out yellow. I’ve asked them, but they don’t know why it is happening. I want white blooms, not yellow. Otherwise, it’s nice.

I am so sorry! I know it must be frustrating for you! What color does it fade to? Do you think it could be the soil? Would be interesting to know if your neighbors’ are doing the same thing. It would be interesting to experiment it in a container where you can control it better and see. That’s what I would do b/c I like to experiment😊
