its called shangan in Zim and Mozambique the epicentre of the whole grouping, however South Africans always think they know better and their opinion is always the right one unfortunately. Tsonga was created in the late 1800's by Swiss missionaries. Shangaan language predates xitsonga therefore it cannot come from xitsonga but xirhonga, xitswa e.t.c

My understanding is shangan was from kzn Zulu land and Tsonga is a group they assimilated with 🙏so in a nutshell shangan are the nxumalo zwide ka langa people where as Tsonga are a group they invaded ✌️🇿🇦

Fact remains, they moved up to around Tzaneen, at no point were they ruled by the Great King (of Shangaans only, not all vaTsonga), King Nghunghunyani. Which is what we want @Frederick Ngwenya to understand. Here is a perfect example of people that were not ruled by the Nxumalos.

That is not true, you accused Fumani S. of lying, whereas you are the one that is lying. One (Tsonga) incorporates the other (Shangaan). Shangaan is a sub-component of Tsonga, a very small component. Hence the Nxumalos have Amashangana Tribal Authority in Thulamahashe, that has nothing to do with the rest of the Tsonga people. In a nutshell, the number 2 is an integer, though not all interferes are 2 (3 is an integer, 8 is an integer, etc). Shangaan are Tsonga, and not all Tsongas are Shangaan

Everything is about conquest. Soshangane Nxumalo a Ndwandwe the grandchild of Gaza has conquered all the Tsonga groups and they became his subjects. Gazankulu comes from Gaza. Giyani is also a nguni word meaning dancing in celebration. The Tsonga word is CINA. In Mozambique GAZA province is under the Ndwandwes and the surrounding provinces agree that they were conquered at by Nxumalos. Both in SA and Mozambique there is no one who dared challenged the Nxumalos (either Soshangane or Nghunghunyani). Prof HWE Ntsan'wisi has coined us and United us into Vatsonga-Machangani and United we shall stand. It is a self defeat to try divide ourselves today. Mozambique is equally annoyed by those who claim that they are not Shangaans. Let us embrace the double barrel that our former chief minister of Gazankulu prof HWE Ntsan'wisi has left us with which enable us to be a strong united force to be reckoned with.

It was a not a community thing, just a one-man dictatorship. Lately, Comrade Joe Maswanganyi spends his time campaigning for the Nxumalo claim for kingship of vaTsonga, which he knows is not valid. Now ask yourself why he installed that statue there and not eThulamashe? Yes makwerhu, you are right, he deliberately installed the statue in the wrong place so that vamakwerhu that are not so informed can use it as an argument. So, please use a proper argument, not a misplaced statue. There are statues of Rhodes and slave traders that were brought down by Rhodes-must-fall and BLM. However, we Tsonga people are not violent, so we will not do that, after all, the Great is one of us, he led a small component of the vaTsonga nation, that being our Shangaan cousins. Let me be clear... no one, denies that the Great King Nghunghunyani is a king. You will see that everywhere I refer to him as Great King, out of respect and reverence. The only thing is that he is king of a small component of the Tsonga Nation, that being the Shangaan people. The Tsonga people existed for centuries before the Ndwandwes arrived. They have never ruled a large swathes of vaTsonga, from the Nkunas, to vaNwanati to Mnisis, etc. That he is King of Shangaan is true, king of Tsongas is false, he only ruled a tiny component. Hence the Nuxmalos in Thulamashe call themselves Amashangana Tribal Authority, acknowledging that they are a sub-tribe of the Tsonga Nation. What happened is that in 1895, after the Great King Nghunghunyani was captured, his 2 uncles led different groups back to the Transvaal, not as conquerors, rather, as beggars for land, begging to be accommodated. Hosi Mpisane Nxumalo led one group to Bush, begging the Mnisi and others for led. Hosinkulu Gija Nxumalo led another group to Malamulele, begging vaN'wanati and another for land, to be accommodated, and they gave Hosinkulu Gija a place in Magona.

Mathe is not Tsonga but Zulu. So it means your forefather was a Zulu warrior Sent by Shaka under the appointed leadership. Remember it was Shaka's plan to unite everybody not just Nguni people/zulu people hence you Shangaan being a combination of Zulu/nguni people and non-Nguni people who are the Tsonga,ndau etc all those different ethnic tribes submerge in the south of Mozambique.Swazi/swati and Ndebele people are Zulu break off hence they have zulu surnames and speak the same Language as the zulu with slight differences here and there and alot of Xhosa grouping used to be Zulu and under the rule of Shaka and later transformed in to the Xhosa identity. Zulu, Xhosa. Swati and Xhosa are the same people. With shangaans, the ones of zulu descent speak something completely different from the Zulu/Nguni language back can be traced via their surname

Confusion here! Shangaan was not a tribe but a nation that Soshangane set up. He and the nguni pioneers, spoke the language now known as Zulu. While he tried to get everyone to speak the nguni language, this didn't actually succeed. There is therefore no one Shangaan language, just like there is no one SA language. Tsongas are Shangaan, the original Ndwandes are also Shangaan(They speak Zulu), the Ndau in Zim who speak Shona with many Zulu words are also Shangaan. Do you see now. The Gaza empires had many languages. Nothing wrong with calling yourself Tsonga. The Shangaan nation is gone
