You mention the seat back being too high for rolling; height is adjustable, and you have it up in the video. I've owned a 145 for 9 summers and love almost every moment with it. Lifting it alone is its only drawback for me. I paddle flat waters for day trips only, and go out probably 15 times a year. One of the things I like is the slightly larger cockpit than a 140 makes it easier for me to slip in & out. Great review. Thanks.

A tip : you can watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching a lot of movies these days.

Sweet extension bar for hauling that thing!

Thanks! I think I paid about $40 for this on amazon years ago. Also great for hauling boards or anything else you need.

Great review! I'm a beginner to kayaking, in your opinion would this suit a 6’0/275pds paddler? I know the weight limit is 350, so wouldn't want to it to sit too low in the water and affect maneuverability/performance. Would be using mostly in ponds/lakes. Thanks
@shootingthehooch72594 жыл бұрын
You should be fine. That would mean you still have 100 lbs to store gear. You won't sit to low. I would also consider some of the longer models of the Tsunami. Good luck!

I’m 6’6, really want a versatile kayak that can do it all so to speak... the tsunami 145looks perfect. Think I’d fit? I’m a thin enough guy for my height, 200lbs flat so width isn’t a problem, length is. What’s the length in inches from the back of the seat fully adjusted to the end of foot space?? Can’t find that measurement online I see cockpit is 19-20” wide and 35” long.
@shootingthehooch72593 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you would but I would consider trying a few different kayaks first. This one also comes in a 16 ft which might be a better fit for you. I'd see if you could demo a few before purchasing one. Good luck.

I’m 5.10 ft. And thinking to get the same yak. How long should I get a paddle for it?
@shootingthehooch72593 жыл бұрын
have a look at this website. If there is a way to try the paddle before you buy it, I would recommend that. aquabound.com/pages/kayak-paddle-sizing-guide

What about rougher water?
@shootingthehooch7259 Жыл бұрын
I would not use it in ocean surf or big river rapids. Ive seen plenty if these kayaks on lakes and calm deep sections of rivers.

I keep seeing Tempest and Tsunami. At 265lbs and liking to camp with about 50 pounds of gear, anyone got a recommendation? Im leaning towards, Tsunami 175 but am totally open to suggestions.The 175 seems a bit long. What are the pros and cons of all this.... HELP!
@shootingthehooch72597 жыл бұрын
Ted. Thanks for subscribing man! I'd stay away from the Tempest if you are taking lots of gear. There isn't lots of room in my opinion. The tempest has a higher weight capacity. Check craigslist. They have some good older kayaks for less. I'm responding to your comment my my Mary Alice Park video with some additional suggestions. Shopping used is always a good option. Here is the comment I'm posting to your to other question on the Tempest 170 vs the Tsunami 175: The Tempest has a lot less primary stability, i.e. it’s easier to tip over and edge. That’s great for advanced paddlers but if you are loaded down with gear or a newer or heavier paddler, it could be an issue. The Tempest’s weight capacity is 325 lbs. That’s not a lot of weight for a 17 ft kayak. I would go for the Tsunami 175. Its weight capacity is 400 lbs. Only problem is that the boat is pricy if you get it new. Other problem is it weather-cocks, i.e. it steers into the wind, so you have to have a rudder to offset that issue. Runs an extra $250. I have another solution for you. I would consider looking for something used on Craigslist. Look for an older model perception or wilderness systems kayak (Perception Eclipse or WS Sealution are solid kayaks and you can find them cheap now). Their websites have all the old catalogues with weight capacities listed. I’ve just posted a review of a Perception Eclipse I found on Craigslist Atlanta for $450 so check it out! The kayak holds 425 lbs and has all the bells and whistles as the Tsunami 170. Mind it is much less comfortable as the boat is nearly two decades old now. Here is the link to the review and I’ll also link the old catalogues for you if you need them. and thanks for subscribing!! 1999 Perception Eclipse Sea Lion 17 Review kzbin.info/www/bejne/hl6VqX1jic2HisU Perception Product Catalogues: www.perceptionkayaks.com/us/customer-service/archived-catalogs Wilderness Systems Product Catalogues: www.wildernesssystems.com/us/customer-service/archived-catalogs

I would have bought the 165 (16.5'), if I was you. that's my dream Kayak. That and the Tempest 170 (award winning boat,)
@shootingthehooch72597 жыл бұрын
I'm sure the 165 is great . Faster for sure. I've not had the opportunity to demo one. I did end up getting a Tempest 170 and just spent the day practicing rescues with buddies. Its a great kayak. Don't forget to like and subscribe!

Recently got Tempest 170 and find (so far) self rescues tougher than getting back in Tsunami 145 (haven;t tried 165 yet). More practice I guess.
@shootingthehooch72597 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching George. I have the same problem with the Tempest 170. It’s because the deck is kind of high and there is less primary stability. To self-rescue 100% of the time, I use a paddle float. I plan to fix that with more practice. For assisted rescue I use a tee rescue, followed by deck stabilization and heel hook reentry. Here is the technique demonstrated on you tube. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF7doX2Hms6UhMU Recently took a class with these guys and it was great! www.meetup.com/The-Greenville-Sea-Kayakers/events/240997101/ Don’t for get to like and subscribe.

Is it good for a beginner?
@shootingthehooch72597 жыл бұрын
For a kayaking on a lake? Yes. It tracks strait and is stable. You can probably also find the 145 or shorter for cheap on craigslist. Good luck and don't forget to like and subscribe!
@shootingthehooch72596 жыл бұрын
It's a great boat for a beginner because its stable but I think you want a rudder on this boat. That adds about $250 to the price tag.
@MonkeyNAround6 жыл бұрын
It is absolutely good for a beginner. It is pretty stable and extremely fast in the water. I would recommend it for a beginner or an experienced paddler.

nice. We have a lot in common as we have the same boats. Tsunami 145 and Tempest 170. Like you, I have my little videos showing off my kayak adventures. If you get a moment, check them out. I am enjoying your videos. Have a great weekend! Jon

Cool!!! Camping on the Edisto looks like real fun. You did a great job with the video and narration. I'm in the process of letting my Tsunami go so I can get a WS Zephyr. The Tsunami has been a great boat but I hear interesting things about Zephry and I'm running out of room in the garage. More on this later. Keep making videos!!

I JUST PURCHASED A tempest 170. Great boat but it does not have the stability of my tsunami. You might want to hold on to the tsunami. thanks for visiting my site. Jon

Cool... I just sold it though. If you are in the market for one, keep an eye on craigslist. You will see the Tsunami 145 show up a very reasonable prices from time to time. Good boat, like I said, I got some good miles out of mine, it was just time for something a little more playful!
@jonmichaels31137 жыл бұрын
I'll never sell my Tsunami 145. I love it too much for camping. I can even roll mine as well. You can see me roll it on my channel. The best idea is to contact local outfitters in your area and see when they are selling their old inventory. Also, I made a trade deal with one of my local outfitters. I made a video on Capers Island Camping and allowed her to use it for promoting her kayak business. In return, she picked me up a New 2017 Tempest 170 at her cost. $1000 for a $1650 boat before tax. Try and make deals with your videos with local venders. Think out of the box. Good luck!
