Yi Sang is actually way worse in Korean "YiSang (이상)" is a word with like 5 different homonym meanings. And Yi Sang will try to force as many name puns as possible while keeping his deadpan expression. And when other characters accidentally use one of the "yisang" words in their proper context he'll but in and say shit like "Did you call me?" By the third canto the characters have gotten used to it and instead of calling it out they just sigh and stuff

Ishmael being "bland" is honestly what makes her stand out in this ensemble of lunacy. Everyone else is a nutcase with very clear issues, while there's maybe 3 sinners that are "normal" human beings, and of those three one is almost always silent because he can't speak normally, another has major war trauma he can keep to himself, and the other is actually a reliable person that ends up on the other side of heathcliff's bat more often than she would like to. At least for now, cause clearly they all have some kind of trauma or dark past, and we're only seeing the 4th of 12 right now.

I mean it was for a joke but I'd honestly disagree. Ishmael presenting herself as bland fits with how she didn't care about her life beyond killing Ahab. She could have been more friendly with the sinners and grew closer to them or talk with them more.
