Is there in the Hmong language that has a R sound? (Rah sound) like my name Ron. And if there is, how would you write it?
@TheTrustedComputer
@TheTrustedComputer Жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert on how English words and names are borrowed into Hmong, but it probably goes something like Loos, or even left as it is. Tones are a bit tricky since English is atonal; most borrowings use the s tone or "cim mus". For example, "America" in Hmong is "As-Mes-Lis-Kas", shortened to "Mes-Kas" in most situations. There are no R's in Hmong; the closest sound to it is an L. It's quite the opposite of Japanese: they have an R but no L. This is one of the reasons why Hmong parents may say Ryan as lion: "Lai Yeem". The O in Ron is like the O in Hmong. In addition, the N at the end means it's nasalized, so it's OO. I hope it answers your question.

We have "R" in the Hmong Romanized Popular Alphabet. R = riam (or knife)
@TheTrustedComputer
@TheTrustedComputer Жыл бұрын
@@ziaskabhmoob I think you misread the question. I understand there is one, but RPA R is a completely different sound that's more like a hard T. This person was talking about a sound that corresponds to the English R in Hmong, not whether there is an R in the language.

@Tswv863SarahGore
@Tswv863SarahGore 6 жыл бұрын
So far my videos have been in White Hmong. But in the future I’ll make Green Hmong videos as well. My videos on the alphabet include Green Hmong vowels and consonants though. Since there are only slight differences, I thought it would be good to teach them together instead of making a separate Green Hmong video with only a few sounds.

Have you done a video on using one word "sarcasticly" to say yes. For example "yes in hmong yog". Use yog with tone to say "yog-oh"-to asked, "yog-ah"-hell no, "yog-khuj"(wrong spelling)-hell yes.

Isn't kill the same thing as dead?
@Tswv863SarahGore
@Tswv863SarahGore 4 жыл бұрын
It’s so very similar unfortunately... the same pronunciation just with a different tone. ‘Tua’ is kill while ‘tuag’ is dead. And also, to add confusion, ‘tuaj’ is to come, like a visitor. 😳 Good question!

@Tswv863SarahGore

@@bandithvilaychith7377 Good question. The "C" is hard to explain over text like this, but what typically makes that sound (although there different dialects and pronunciations of it), is the edges of the tongue touching the teeth, and then 'letting go' as the air in the mouth gently moves passed and the tongue pulled away from the teeth. But better than that, here is a vide my husband makes on the T, D, and R sound..kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4axXquveLh5jtk I hope that helps.
