toronto has the most bizzare above-ground subway stations i've ever seen. the platforms are fully covered with walls and a ceiling as if to emulate an underground station, and the whole thing looks more like a high school than a place you wait for trains.

That's 1960s architecture for you. It had its plusses and minuses, but the TTC has been encountering its minuses of late. Islington and Warden are proving to be... a challenge to render accessible, with all of those individual bus bays. In the end, they're opting to knock both bus terminals down and start over with a new facility reminiscent of what now exists at Victoria Park (which had the same arrangement as Warden when it opened in 1968).

@@transittoronto in the 1960's most transit systems wouldve opted for simple canopies and a small bus loop. I guess this shows that toronto really cared about investing in transit back then and creating a high quality system, but those grandeur decisions seem to have comically backfired
