Finally! An umpire who actually abides by serving rules! I can't defend the umpire's lack of consistency calling faulty serves or his late calling, but finally there's an umpire who brings light to the service rules of table tennis. I agree that at the top level you see serves that are much worse than this, and I believe that the world of TT needs more umpires like this to "shock" the players who have these bad habits and have them realize what they're doing isn't acceptable.

Respect to Bartosz Such - after match he was shaked hand with unempire
@DKPOWA12 жыл бұрын
Not, you are supposed to throw it as vertically as possible, that what we call a grey area. Its standard to accept a 15° deviation from a straight upwards tragectory.
@mjtsirhc11 жыл бұрын
I commend Bartosz for keeping his cool and even shaking the umpire's hand at the end of the game.

The Robert / Bartosz match will be forever known as the service fault match

you're allowed to throw the ball upwards AND at a certain angle in any other direction.
@pappaflammyboi57999 жыл бұрын
The official is calling the fault correctly (almost all. I think he was mistaken once or twice). Unfortunately, just about every TT player violates the rules. It takes a lot of chutzpah for the official to stand his ground. I'm curious if he still has a job. It's my opinion that if players can hit a ball with as much precision as they do, they can most certainly loft a ball 16 cm vertically (the rules say "near vertical"). How hard could that be? Bartosz Such gave the points away because he refused to change his serve. He and only he is to blame for his arrogance.

I don't play tennis, but we are studying it in P.E right now and base on the examples of error services of my teacher and videos on youtube, all of the serve that I saw are fault. Perhaps I'm wrong and all the video that i saw, but there's a rule where the ball should be thrown vertically straight upwards, where the throw from the dude keeps on curving going to his body. Idk, I'm a mechanical engineering student not a pong player, but i like to put it here that that's how they teach us. That's how the umpire probably learnt it and just applying here.

it seems that gardos said something like if it was wang hao or wang liquin you shouldnt call a faulty serv. at 2-30
@BollTimo12 жыл бұрын
Such was not serving perfectly correct, biut if you call that serve, no serve is correct. However, he kept on serving like that, Gardos was smarter, tossing the ball very high and do the pendulum serve. I wonder why Such didn't do that, didn't he wanted to win? Or maybe he thought the umpire would stop calling his serves

I've nerver seen anything like that in 8 years of table tennis !

@shifty512 жыл бұрын
Wow really, there's too many technicalities now. I think as long as you make contact from behind the edge of the table it should be good. The umpire ruined what could of been a great match.
@forestloves12 жыл бұрын
You're supposed to throw the ball upwards only, not upwards AND sideways.
@AdrianSpy712 жыл бұрын
I understand to take 2 or 3 points for wrong serve, but it's ridiculous to take 8 points!! Gardos didn't had much problems with receiving Such's services so umpire should let them play the action. From the second game match was senseless and none of players didn't played like he should. The audience confirmed that :)

WTF??! Ball trajectory is loocking good, he throwing ball by legal way... Seyia Kishikawa has the same serve... I'm don't know, but maybe you can tell me; what is wrong in his serve
@raphyelrosby12 жыл бұрын
Yeah, problem is, if the guy at the other side of the table isn't caring then WTF. Plus its his perception, as the commentators said many times that one serve that was faulted looked just like the next, so umpire was a deuchebag, Reminds me of the umpire from Cali who disqualified Fan Yiyong after he told him to go and reglue.

Shitty rules and shitty umpires like those are ruining this beautiful game... I think it´s enough with the service behind the line and not hidden, the way you want to throw the ball is your matter.

I wonder if this umpire was in a match with the Chinese team, would he dare calling so many faults, for example on Xu Xin which clearly throws the ball much more toward him than Such.

@simpanz12 жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, the rules say to throw the ball "near vertically upwards". The problem is, that obviously each umpire has its own definition of this term. And that is IMHO wrong. There should be general agreement (General Agreement ;)) what is considered still legal and what lies beyond the rules and the umpires should be following this agreement. This umpire is ridiculous since he's not even consistent in his opinion (as he didn't call all the Such's serves with sideways ball throw).
@northswole12 жыл бұрын
i wouldn't acknowledge the umpire by shaking his hand. i would do it by smack a ball in his face.
