What helps me is the fact that I’m not alone. Every living thing dies. All life in the past and all life in the future(as far as we know) will die

i'm terrified of death. what the hell should i do? i will probably go insane and lose my job. i'm more preoccupied with it than solomon. and i am agnostic. i find all theories about supernatural or metaphysical worlds hopelessly baseless in evidence. my own experience is that death is literally the end. and i find it terrifying to think that this post i'm about to make is going to disappear forever, along with all of you

The ironic thing is you won't be there to freak out about it. Just think of the loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time before you were born. Did you notice it? No, right? You won't after you die either.

death has great influence on how you're living your life though.

now look here mr solomon. Don't be worried about your own death. Thats hardly important. just the punctuation to a long paragraph that is your life. Only concern yourself with living in bliss now. You've havnt thought about this properly. You've been given this awesome opportunity to live! If you fear death its because you arent in the moment, living your best life. Yes of course the music will stop. It has for EVERYONE before you. Most natural thing in the word. We are ephemeral creatures of necessity, we are entropy machines. Be amazed with this moment, not terrified of the next. peace out my fearful bro. Take solace in the fact that many will take your place.

I hear you mate. I'm agnostic as well and i'm preoccupied with it too. and what's worse, there's no "peaceful" way to die. nobody ever died peacefully. existence is pointless.

why not find solace in the notion of the Eternal - that reality shall exist forever and has always existed - energy can be neither destroyed nor created kind of stuff. and yea, scientists say the world is 13 billion years old but they do not know where this tiny bit of energy came from that started the big bang...

Not a word about neuroscience, brain technologies, meditation, psychedelics, transcendence or Eastern philosophy. Weird, for a guy so erudite.

@mind No, I mean all that stuff is very GOOD. It has changed my life. It's the way to overcome the fear of mortality. That's why I said it's weird that he didn't mention any of it.

@mind The scientists and technologists working on the way our brain is structured to process fear and to contract into a limited sense of self are unravelling this mystery. The science and technology of meditation, self-realization, transcendence, and profound happiness have advanced enormously since Solomon gave this interview. All of this can and will change our fear of mortality. Be wary of adopting a fixed position on this, because you can end up just exchanging one belief system for another.
