I think by holding it tightly on its skin like that can hurt the cat & that's why it reacted aggressively. I handled my cats like this before & they aren't aggressive at all but because they aren't very light & I held tightly on their skin like that, they screamed & scratched me. Maybe she should have just handled the cat a little more gentler & it wouldn't have reacted like that.

Scruffing the cat by pulling back the skin is very stressful the cat. That is what a cat feels when being attacked by a predator or other cat. TTouch yes, scruff, no.

Please Note: Although the T-Touch is a good method of bonding with your cats in a calming way. Please note the instructors here make every part of the video about adjusting the cat to accept human touch. If the cat DOES NOT WANT HUMAN TOUCH, you are actually supposed to let them slowly readjust so they don't develop human based PTSD. Note how many references they make about how they're doing things right. They have no idea that the speed is an issue. All this was experimental at the time, and the T-Touch should not be forced to force a cat to accept human touch. It should be used for RE-BONDING with your cat slowly over several weeks to probably months to a year for a cat this emotionally scared. They forced it in a few days and from my experience the cat is basically brainwashed into giving humans full control. This can result in further emotional instability over time since the cat didn't learn humans properly and just feels helpless around them. This comment may not apply to everyone but did apply to my cats. Speed has no bearing in raising a cat. Correcting "bad" behavior or, in my opinion, emotional stress takes TIME. Just like introducing two cats can take 3 months. Adjusting a cats behaviors should not take 3 days. Or 2 like they say in this video.

T-Touch should always be used over Scruffing. Scruffing should only be used if your cat is lounging or attacking your face. If he/she/it is attacking your arms or legs. They want play. They dont want to be snuggled. They dont want you to toss a toy down the hall. They want interactive play, including back and forths. Toys are not a distraction tool. They are a BONDING TOOL.

You are correct that the cat should have consent about being touched or interacting. This is an older video and today we tend towards any contact with an animal to be in small chunks, as small a contact as necessary to be acceptable, and it takes as long as it takes. We just did a webinar on working with shelter and rescue cats that will be uploaded shortly, it is more in line with modern understanding of emotions and trauma. We do have an updated free online mini-course, one focused on cats; learn.ttouch.ca/product-category/free/
