But, ST isn't a zero to hero story... In ST the main characters are already consummate professionals. The zero to hero narrative is distinctly not ST. If you want to run an ST campaign on the established narrative, then you simply can't do a zero to hero arc. ST heroes are definitely not level one characters. ST heroes are seasoned veterans. D&D is definitely not a system that should be used to emulate ST topes. Try Far Trek, or 2d20 ST, or even Unicorn Games ST. Not superhero fantasy D&D! 5e is just about the worst TTRPG system you could use for an ST game. In ST the bridge crew are the epitome of seasoned professionals. They have already spent years, if not decades, in their profession. Starting an ST crew off as noobs is antithesis to the genre. This vid is real proof that 5e is not a suitable system for every game. ST is not a 5e game, it is so much more! How will the 5e system handle a game that goes 23 sessions without a single phaser being fired...poorly at best. Yeah, seek out non-5e systems if you want to play a ST game. 5e superhero fantasy game is definitely not the system that will make for a good ST game. Try Far Trek for cheesy 70s ST, or Unicorn Games ST for crunches ST, or ST Adventures for a more modern take...but not 5e. 5e ST is almost as bad a matchup as D20 SW matches SW media. Yeah, 5e as a SW or ST game is about the worst combination of rules vs media that I can even imagine. There are literally hundreds of systems that would make a better ST game than 5e. Sorry, but 5e can only do what it was designed to do, many other systems simply do it better.
