I did a KZbin search, to see if you had posted anything about the Tuatahi Work Axe yet and Violá, there it is!! 16 hours ago!! THAT'S AWESOME! I'm (anxiously) awaiting the arrival of my Tuatahi Work & Camp axes STILL!! Wheeeeew, the suspense is KILLING ME!! 🤪🥴🤯😵🥺 Oh well, that will make it that much more exciting when they finally arrive! Patience is a virtue, right? Appreciate the video, I actually have the camp axe head on order. After some use now would you prefer it was on a longer handle? I was thinking of hanging it myself on a 28”(70cm). I’d prefer that the manufacturer hung it but they do not have the option for different lengths, I asked Tuatahi. Thanks brotha!
@bundufundi3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Here's my thoughts, if you bought it on the stock handle I would keep it as it is a well made handle, very well fitted and pretty useable as is. However, if you are just buying the head and putting your own handle on it, then I would definitely put it on a 28" (70cm) handle. The size and weight of the head would definitely suit a longer handle and would then be a very versatile axe.
@adlenz65053 жыл бұрын
@@bundufundi Sounds good, I think I’ll hang it myself on the 28”. Like you said, more versatility for that weight of head. Cheers

Great looking axe. They call it a camping axe, but at 2kg I don’t think you would pack it too far. Perhaps a great axe to carry in a 4WD.
@bundufundi3 жыл бұрын
For sure, that's what I thought too. Possibly for a base camp.
@spjr99 Жыл бұрын
A thought I had just now. If you are carrying an ax, does 1.5or 3 lbs/kg really matter? Wouldn't you rather do the slight work of carrying the extra 1.5 lbs/kg of weight to reap the benefit of less work at a camp? Obviously it is situational but just an idea. I mean you gain a pound eating a meal. I understand it all adds up over time, but if you are trying to avoid a caloric deficit, then swinging a shitty axe is gonna cost you more than a good one that's slightly heavier.

So I have just heard (and seen the prototype) that tuatahi are working on a small bearded axe now, idea is that it’s a small lightweight axe that hunters and the like can toss in a pack (head to weight max 1kg) and take with them as almost a survival tool, not intended for felling but for gathering small wood to start a fire, talk is about a 19 inch handle and a smaller 14 inch version as a hatchet. Whether anything come of this is anybody’s guess but I am interested for sure.
@axemanmike43903 жыл бұрын
@ Shelley Raskin That would be AMAZING! Do you have a link on the info about the new hatchet? Just got my camp and work axes on June 1st! The quality is UNMATCHED & SUPERIOR to anything I've seen!! It gets my heart rate up just holding them! 🤪😋😁

Now that sounds really interesting! An axe of that geometry with Tuatahi quality would be too good to miss.

I've always wanted one of their axes and I've thought about the camp axe. But it's really too heavy for a camp type axe imo. I was really excited when I first saw they were making a camp axe until I checked out the weight of it. I'm sure it's an excellent axe but who really wants to pack around a 4 pound axe. Most of my full sized working axes are around 3 1/2 pounds and using them for a few hours is a pretty good workout. I've got heavier ones as well but I seldom use them unless I'm working on big oaks. Even then I'll switch over to lighter axes once I deal with the lower trunk. Hopefully they'll pay attention to the average axe users and make a lighter version. I wager if they'd make a 2 1/2 pound axe with a 28" handle they would sell way more of them than any of their other axes. Most people aren't out using their axes that often and those full sized axes will just leave them worn out and frustrated. And for many of them it's just plain dangerous because they can't control them. Great comparison video.
@bundufundi2 жыл бұрын
I agree about the weight and I also have an issue with the handle length. They are incredibly well made axes, the best quality of any I own but as a camp axe it is too heavy. After using it for a couple of hours my wrists were sore for a few days. The Scandinavian forest axe or boys axe size is still the best all rounder I think. The racing DNA runs deep in Tuatahi so they are probably not used to making light axes but if they do they will be the best out there I think. Thanks for watching!
@jessecoonce13632 жыл бұрын
@@bundufundi Great comparison, I'm jealous of those beautiful axes. That camp axe hung on the work axe handle with the cheeks ground out same as the work axe head would be pretty awesome. Would shave a little weight off the head and make it more efficient with the longer handle. Would still be a bit heavy for a camp axe but would be a fantastic all-around axe.
@bundufundi2 жыл бұрын
@@jessecoonce1363 The quality of these axes is so high and totally different to most out there. The weight of the camp axe is definitely tricky, on one hand it is great for processing wood quickly but the handle does feel a bit too short for the weight.
@jessecoonce13632 жыл бұрын
@@bundufundi Yeah, they appear to be the absolute best quality. The work axe is probably the one I will get at some point down the road. Camp axe head hung on a longer handle would be another appealing option.
@elevationaxesaw51362 жыл бұрын
It seems as though they’re doing pretty well from a sales standpoint already - current wait on axes is 4-5 months. Whatever audience they’re appealing to is still buying a lot of them. Engineered for Axemen has a smaller hatchet, but they’re selling for 2xs what the camp axe is selling for…
@TylerSnyder3053 жыл бұрын
If only they could make one of about 2.5lb. At about 4lb that's like a vintage American Connecticut pattern , that's a full sized felling axe right there.
@bundufundi3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely on the heavy side. The fact that they are branching out from the racing size might mean they will expand the range further and bring out a lighter version. Their quality is certainly the best I have come across in a modern axe.
