What you are saying is false. CARVED pumpkins rot very quickly. Whole pumpkins can last well over 7 months if their skin is undamaged. They were grown as a winter supply food.

I got one of those mini pumpkins in October 2020 and only a few weeks ago in May 2021 did it start to show signs of decay. Even then, it didn't get gross, it was just sort of wrinkly and a bit soft. I'm sure the size played a part, but I think gourds just hold up really well over time. If anything, I think the tub pumpkin probably would've lasted longer if it had not been homed in said tub, what with the hot water and steam involved.

i mean it's only the carved ones that rot away in like a day. whole pumpkins can last for quite a while, so long as you're not DUNKING THEM IN HOT BATH WATER and like, thumping them on your bath tub or whatever they were doing…
