My two pennyworth Pat. We've got different tastes, I've seen a few of my personal greats too. But Tuba Skinny brings us all together from various spectrums. As good as the greats. And great to see Shaye smile, I'll sit through any number of great performances for that smile, knowing it's never far away despite what people say.

@@stewartfenton7660 Saw him at a small club outside Seattle in 1980. He sang mostly country and gospel songs that night like "Bottles and Bar Stools" and "The One Rose That's Left In My Heart". Seemed like he really enjoyed playing a small intimate gig as opposed to his usual large concerts.

@@PMLynch Jerry is good at that stuff, but when I saw him, I was a rabid R'n'R er, and though I listened to other things as well, all I and the crowd wanted was R'n'R. First set he sang allsorts, only thing I remember was, "That old rugged Cross". I was disappointed and wishing I hadn't come,but next set he cut loose, and like I say, the greatest gig I ever did see. Old Kenny Lovelace played fiddle for him at the time, wasn't too keen on seeing a fiddle in a supposed R'n'R band. Good old Kenny, still with Jerry last I saw. If he ever talked, he'd have more stories than Keith Richards.

TS fans typically shower their favorite band with high praise. The most common complaint is that Erika's mike is mixed improperly, set too low. That is emphatically not true of the performances Pat Keegan recorded in Duchess County, including this video and that tumultuous video of Give Me Some. Erika sings with stylistic touches that are easy to miss if her mike's level is too low. This video shows how good things can be when we can hear her.
@patkeeg13 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve,,,I agree 100% ..its all about the mix of the instruments with Erika and Greg's vocals. My recording at the Colonial in Woodstock, the night before were sub-par. The vocals were somewhere over my head or behind me as I stood right in front of them. This show at the (awesome, incredible) Dutch Barn had an amp right up in front. I was using a Cannon SLR 80D. with no special mic attachment. The recording of a good sound quality at these TS shows should be paramount. This band is truly a national treasure playing music that needs to be heard and certainly preserved I have all the TS albums (and Lonesome Doves) and they are all fantastic, but I give the edge to the sound at some of their live performances. I always prefer Ericas vocals when she's NOT singing into a microphone. No amplification needed with her talent- can't say that about many vocalist out there. A hardened Royal Street gives her the perfect acoustics. I can do without the street chatter. The worst! is an incredible street recording by James Sterling where Greg sings 'Going to German' and 2 self-absorbed knuckle heads completely blow an otherwise wicked cool recording. My mecca is see TS at the Little brown Church in Maine where my favorite recordings are made by Cine Devine. No chatter at these shows.

@@patkeeg1 thanks for the generous comment. I sure appreciate the work you and others do to record the work of this band we all love. I can't avoid ranking different videos, and in my ranking your vid of Give Me Some is tied with another vid for my absolute top ranking. That's an astonishing performance, and you caught it perfectly. The one I rank with it is Cine Devine's capture of Erika singing Poppa's Got Your Bath Water On. As I'm sure you know, that was recorded at the Little Brown Church, which I think might have the best acoustics of anywhere the band plays.

@@stevegrooms1142 I told Robin (washboard) to make a TS triple album from the Little Brown Church. He agreed that the band had a better sound live.

@@patkeeg1 did I reply already? Maybe, but I want to tell you how much I like your comment above. When you consider where TS plays, it is remarkable they have so few drunks interfering with the show. You folks who record TS so well are doing holy work, and I'm among those who are extremely grateful for your efforts. I'm quickly learning, too, that you, James, CineDevine, stolpe and others form a unique brotherhood of kindred souls. I wish I could meet you all.
