Tuba Skinny on Royal Street February 13, 2011. Tuba Skinny is an incredible band presenting authentic New Orleans Jazz very close to what it sounded like more than 80 years ago.

These musicians go right back to the roots of New Orleans jazz and play with real feeling .

The huge grin on that clarinet player's face after his solo reminds me a /lot/ of what I feel like every time I play this kind of music; you can't help but smile.

As a NO jazz enthusiast since the mid 50s I was surprised and delighted to discover this. Great performance by these young guys. Overall effect to me is Jelly-ish so towards classic jazz, cornet resembles George Mitchell (who if my jazz history is OK was not from New Orleans). On one number (not this one) clarinet sounded to me like Burbank. Do Tuba Skinny tour in UK? Talking of young guys, how about Billy Huntington on the Colyer/Mile Barnes recordings in 1953!

How come in 6 years nobody has offered the title of this tune? It's 'Jackass Blues' , composed in 1926 by Kassel and Stitzel.

'Only' 40,000 views in six years and lets face it, there aren't very many folks with your vast knowledge. Many of us can take a title or artist and do a search but having the tune in one's head is another matter ..

Marvelous, first rate .. and at this point TS as a band is not quite two years old; Shaye and Barnabus, self taught from a 'swamp horn' discarded in Katrina, have been playing cornet & trombone barely four years. Todd on tuba also.

I've only just come across this one,It's obviously not the current line-up. I like the clarionetist, his tone and attack remind me a lot of Monty Sunshine.
