I am about ready to brig a Fisher 800B back on line after years of collecting dust. I have book marked most your programs on individual tube types but would love hearing your comments on the 7591. I realized my days of tube rolling were pretty much done with when I opted to put the Fisher back into service, however I would very much appreciate listening to some commentary on this often overlooked power tube.

I don't have any experience with the 7591, and even though we stock thousands of tubes we may only have one or two used ones in stock. So they are a rare tube. You can find a new manufactured JJ, but I've never like JJ tubes. Another option would be to just convert it over to 6L6 and if you decide to do that I have a perfect recommendation.

We don't specialize in those tubes, though we probably have most of the tubes guitar players drool over, but we don't know which one's would be best, or how they affect the tone - so as always we only talk about what we know best.

I bought my VAC PA 100 100 and ARC LS15 tube pre amp back in 1995 The VAC came from the factory with KT88 Golden Dragon tubes Just recently I sent my VAC amp back to VAC for a good go-over (everything was excellent) and re-tube They suggested the Golden Lion KT88 matched pairs and Golden Lion 12AU7 tubes Would you recommend going with new old stock KT88 fir a sonic upgrade?

In almost every case a quality vintage tube will sound superior to the modern copy. The best vintage KT88 i've ever heard was the true vintage SED (Svetlana Electronic Devices) KT88, made in St.Petersburg (Caution, many fakes and copies for sale). What makes these special is that the midrange has a wee bit of warmth - almost every KT88 ever made has a very flat sounding midrange, that is meh. These tubes are now fairly rare and expensive, we make up about 4 matched quads a year and they sell instantly. The 12AU7 is much easier, we still have good NOS NIB (new old stock, new in box) inventory of the best USA made 12AU7 - the vintage RCA "clear tops", excellent all around tube, with great clarity, particularly in the treble and also a touch of midrange warmth. Remember 90% of recorded music is in the mids - so if a tube/amp/system doesn't get that right you got nothing!
