I was thinking A THE WHOLE TIME! Screamer seems to pull back certain frequencies and reduced expression. 65 year old ears factor -2 Db. My mid's are naturally scooped a little. Choose to get JOYO Thanks again for a great video review.. I think you are at the TOP on Pedal reviews. JUST RIGHT.

This is how every comparison video should be - blind! Awesome stuff! Thank you! Joyo for me all day. I actually immediately knew which one was which - from other comparison videos I knew the Ibanez sounds smoother and the Joyo has more edge. I definitely prefer edge. :))) An even more fun thing to do would be to switch which pedal is A or B for each music bit. This way we would have to rely entirely on our ears to see which one we prefer in the context of each setting/music.

They really are very close. For most of the samples I preferred the Joyo pedal. It sounded more articulate and had a better response in the mid range to my ears. It's important if you're trying to cut through the mix in a four or five piece band. It's no surprise to me that the Joyo pedal performed so well. I own a few and they all sound amazing. Besides at one fifth the price it's really a no brainer. Joyo is the way to go IMO.

After owning the Joyo for a while I can tell the difference. Luckily I forgot the order before re-watching. The Joyo is brasher and bigger sounding, but it's also harsher. There is a pleasant texture to the TS9. I prefer it over the Joyo.

I might be wrong, but the Joyo is a copy of the 808 rather than the TS9 - I think this might account for the main difference in sound (to my ears, the Ibanez has a bit of a low mid bump compared to the joyo)

Joyo make good pedal efects at low cost. Some people say that are trash but i've been using a Dyna Compressor and a Vitange Phaser for about a year and didnt have any problem, buuut these pedals are'nt clones, the Phaser is not like a Phase 90 or a Small Stone and the Dyna Compressor is'nt a clone of the MXR Dyna Comp. The Vintage Phaser plus my Deluxe Big Muff Pi make a awesone couple! Add the Dyna Compressor and you get a nasty infinite sustain. Good comparison btw, u got my subscription!

I did a video recording via phone camera on my revv g3 which has some random bad connections which result in lower output. The differences is obvious when u heard it thru live, but thru the recording the differences is minimum. If one is after better quality tone, especially at home.The differences became more obvious when u used the original one on a quality tube amp and a noise reduction room. But if one use it for gig or jam, i think no one would pay attention to the differences when the singer screams and the drum rolled. Depends on your need. Today budget pedals are just bang for the bucks.

I could tell immediately that B was the tube screamer by it’s thinner, quieter tone. Imo for my style of playing, the joyo blows the TS clean out of the water and sounds a world better. The TS was probably super impressive, back in 1983.

When you were setting them up, did you match the gain level by ear or use the knob positions? I much preferred the sound of A but I suspect it might be because it was set to higher gain
@NicoBellisarioMusic
@NicoBellisarioMusic 7 жыл бұрын
Hey William! Both pedals were set identically as shown in the graphics. It seems to me as well, especially on lower gain settings that the Joyo has more gain but at full blast they seem almost the same. It also seems to me that the joyo has a fatter voicing while the tubescreamer has a bit more "sophisticated" voice, especially on single notes
@holyronin
@holyronin 7 жыл бұрын
The sound differences could also have been caused by the difference in pots due to tolerances and taper. For a closer comparison in future videos I'd suggest using one pedal as a reference and tweaking the other by ear to have a simular level of gain and treble. That way you can be more sure what you are hearing are differences in the circuit as opposed to the variations in components. Love the playing will be keeping an eye out for the next one

honestly, I found both to be better/worst on about as many samples. So, That means that they are different just enough for one to be better for certain stuff then the other. I though the mid-range definition (but not volume) was better on the Ts but the brightness and perhaps even level of the joyo was higher. The ts is definitely more warm. The joyo is more bright. Bottom line, in case of doubt, get both XD Edit: After checking down below the comments, I would like to say that if the output of the joyo is higher (which is not impossible) This can trick un-trained ears to think the volume increase means the sound is better. This is why when we record and album lets say, we make sure to first level out (approximately) all tracks to the same rough level to get a better idea of everything in the mix. Then, once you add effects, you have to volume match the before /after volume to get an accurate representation of the sound. If Nico Reads this : Can you let me know if they were volume matched in you Daw (Preferably in LUFS as we are listening to a Normalized audio from KZbin) ? Also, if not, id be very curious if you could make a new test and see if the results changes =) Alternatively, if you have the raw files of each still available, id be happy to do the simple volume match and re-ship them to you for a second test Video.

Sample A was more lively IMO. They were very similar but I'd say for the price I'd totally go with Joyo. I wouldn't recommend Donner or Behringer, however, due to their build quality. My friend and I have had problems with ours, especially Donner.

Gotta say I preferred B, but it was definitely close and I wasn’t at all confident that it was the TS.

The Joyo won, hands down. To me, anyway. It just sounded more "alive"

I liked B better but I think it's just a matter of moving the knobs a bit more to get the same sound. I already own the joyo btw. I mainly use it to boost into a higher gain drive and tighten the bottom end up.

No preference here, however listening to the audios with quality speakers there is definitely more bass response from sample B. Thanks for the video, great playing by the way!

Cool video. I liked the A sound more. But indeed little difference from seemingly different pedals.

i've got both, the volumen of the Joyo is much more high than the ts9 volumen, apart from that they are very similar, good video Nico

If you can't choose, try Joyo because it's true bypass and smaller :D

Thumbs up to Joyo that is a great pedal still marginally prefered the TS9 I found it warmer but at the price difference... Id pick the joyo for starting out, maybe those ts808 handwired might be better but honestly the joyo looks way to good!

Don't forget you're hearing playback via MP3 not wav so we're losing a lot of the quality sound with the compression. The differences between the quality of the effects that the Ibanez provides may be lost in translation.

I had guessed that A tones were from the Joyo, maybe because they sounded a bit heftier, but I've just been lucky. Very very similar sounding. Great job on your part.

Nico Bellisario - Guitar, Music & Stuff This adjective occurred to me listening to your test. It seems that there's one more Joyo clone of the TS(!) named Green Legend, defined as "creamier" by someone who tried it. The firm says it has the same chip that's in the Vintage. The two could be more suitable for different sound nuances, genres or guitar types... what about it Nico?

At just one minute and fourteen seconds in, they both sound similar enough that it doesn't matter in a mix.
