I think the difficulty is our numbers are low because we are very rural and population is low...during the winter/spring. If we open up business as usual and all the out of state landowners/vacationers start pouring in now that the weather is getting nicer what happens to our numbers then? It seems like an overreach now based on our current population but it's difficult to calculate the effect once we hit full capacity. There is no easy answer either way unfortunately

we live in maine! we're never out of the woods! the woods are everywhere! maine isn't new york city. we don't have 40million people crammed in to a small space. we're a huge fucking state with almost nobody in it. we don't need such extreme measures. our economy in maine is already shit. we were just coming back from the 08 crash. this is going to set us back decades. granted, i don't want people to die from rona. but we can re-open and still keep our distance from each other. the vulnerable can still stay home. the damage this lockdown is going to cause will far out weigh the damage the rona would have if we loosened up on restrictions.

Most of the cases are in Cumberland and York counties. 1095 cases in state, Cumberland County 486, York 205. The rest of the state-14 counties has 404 cases.

@@Communicationdirect according to the Maine CDC, Aroostook has had 5 cases with 1 hospitalized, no deaths. It is my understanding that they count the cases by residence not by location when sick so they could actually be visiting another county when testing positive.

While I am not a Mills fan... I have a hard time finding this as an abuse of power. For me that would imply she feels “using this power” will somehow endear her to people and help her further her political career which has gone on for probably 30 years too long. Despite not being a fan of hers I personally find it more reasonable to believe she’s trying to do the right thing, as it wouldn’t logically make a whole lot of sense to piss people off with no end game. I can’t see the rationale behind thinking “using their power” would actually win them any fans during election season. Sounds like more collective whining to me personally.

The representatives and senators (who were elected to represent the people and are the ones on the frontlines answering calls from panicked constituents because they still have not been able to get their unemployment or their businesses are on the verge of permanently closing) asked to be included in the decision making of our state. One day before her reopen maine executive order she opened a special comment box just for the legislators. The legislators got a copy of her plan just moments before her press confetence. I'm sorry, but that's not how a democracy is supposed to work.

He is spot on.......I live in Maine and my job is keeping the tourist retailers stocked with product. I can tell you this......her guidelines are a blockade to tourists coming to the state. Any guest has to quarantine for 14 days and thats implemented through to September. Of the 37 million tourists that come every year who would come to a quarantine? So in effect she just banned them all. The retailers make their $$ in June July August and September. They will NEVER survive this. It's impossible. That's another 100k unemployed. Where will these people go? How will they live? How will they feed their families? 33 people hospitalized and 51 dead. There is no other better word to describe this scenario other than "vandalism "

There are states that have lower numbers than maine and they never implemented closures. One thing is for certain.......Americans have learned a great deal about this virus. We are using safety precautions when we are out and we now know that the vulnerable need to stay home. No one wants a nanny state and that what closing the state is. There has to be balance - Maine doesn't have the $$ to pay the unemployment bills and the $$ is running out.

We only have to wear masks inside public places like supermarkets so find it odd that Maine which is less densely populated in most areas would require masks outside too. Maybe in bigger towns like Portland or Augusta but other than that seems extreme. So if I'm coming for a week I'd have to quarantine for 2 weeks. Yeah makes sense.

Mills has made it so we can't get a haircut legit she said only a few salons can open but only 1 customer at a time and every employee of the selons have to got back to work and off unemployment. Good right? Wrong! Would any be ok working maybe 1-2days a week and living off of $80?? Oh the best part is if you refuse to go back you no longer qualify for Maine unemployment so you go making $800-$2k depending on how many kids you have to $80 bucks and you have no say
