Not remotely the same. Pence was and is a career politician. JD is not. JD is a fighter. With all due respect to Pence, he clearly was not. JD was not the establishment’s choice. He has a great story of fighting through adversity and a chaotic childhood to become who he is today. Been very critical of Trump’s decisions in the past, but I am pleasantly surprised. He was one of the few Republicans that wanted to give Ukraine a 10th 95 million dollar package recently. He only started liking Trump after he decided to run for the Senate in Ohio, and was unexpectedly losing. Read some of his other messages regarding his thoughts on the republican party. He is very much akin to a Pence, Cheney, Bush type of establishment approved republican.

What I heard about that is that he made a sarcastic comment about firing un-vaxed nurses to illustrate a point against vax mandates, and the media and others misrepresented that to be his actual literal position, saying that he wanted them fired. Someone else's comment about this said that Vance actually wrote an op-ed article against vax mandates but I don't know what publication it appeared in. It's kind of like how the media took President Trump's comments about using bleach to fight Covid out of context to smear him.

@@konroh2 notice the word I have in all caps in my post, qualified. I hardly consider Vance the most qualified candidate out there. They were plenty of better choices. Better choices that would’ve attracted people to the ticket. No idea how Vance is the “best” at something other than befriending the Trumps after first insulting them and their voters.

@@RamblinManMoto I think part of it is Trumps comfort with the pick as well. Pence proved that not all "conservatives" are equal. I'm not entirely sure about why he picked Vance, but I believe that factors in.

@@RamblinManMoto I noticed you capped qualified. Vance seems to be capable of changing his mind, perhaps attracting anti-Trumpers who can change their mind. He's a strong "go against the tide" Senator. He's younger, a marked contrast to the candidates, and if he were a black woman that wouldn't be different from the Democratic party. He's a sharp conservative, definitely a drain the swamp guy. He seems to be a great, if not the best, fit. Can you think of a qualified minority with widespread popularity with political credentials or aspirations? They are quite few.

I understand Tucker's logic, but Trump would be an 80-year-old president. His VP matters more than most. If Vance had run for president against Trump, would you have picked him over someone else? Most of us would have picked someone else.

Vance is still quite Pro-Israel and was a big fan of Evan McMullin. JD represented the Liz Cheney side of DC, which is probably a good thing for the GOP Party if they want the support from that side, but its scary because JD is young and will either be manipulated by Trump and his allies or they simply won't get along. This will be a very strange leadership team in my opinion.
